Realy, I think it was the chicken, but where did it come from? An egg! An age-old dispute.

It's almost like did the first human being have a belly button?

This is easy.

A Chicken.

A lizard layed a lizard-egg and from it came a mutant lizard, aka Chicken.

Surely if the lizard laid the egg that made a chicken, it was a chicken egg, so the egg came first.

The answer is simple. The egg.

Because the egg was always there no matter what the creature was before, but the chicken wasn't always the chicken.

Luckily eggs were around long before live-birth animals. Otherwise we'd really have a conundrum.

AFAIK, I think an egg is involved in the birth process at some point for every species. So whenever the first chicken was born, at some point it was probably an egg.

I completely agree that it was the egg. Eggs have been around long before chickens existed. For example dinosaur eggs. Nobody specified that it had to be a chicken egg. Just that it's an egg. The egg was 1st, without a doubt.
