Hi all,
i'm just curios which cartoons you like better, the dc ones or the marvel.
i've recently watched Spiderman the animated series and i'm in the process of watching Justice League Unlimited and i think both are excellent but i think i like JLU a little bit more, since it feels more mature.
so what do you think ?
can you recommend any other good cartoons ?

I Think Bruce Timm's Animated DC universe is one of the best group of series around.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of some of the Marvel stuff. But Timm is just on a different playing field.

For me Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series along with Justice League, and Batman Beyond are the best around.


Marvel has had its share of good stuff, but mostly they feel like they end up missing something.

Likely the continuity you get from the Bruce Timm set of cartoons.

All of the Timm series exists within the same universe if you will. They reference each other, and even explain things from one show in another. Its pretty interesting, and makes the watching that much more fun as the stories tend to have much more depth.

Spider-Man Animated of the 90's was pretty good, as was the X-Men cartoon same period. These two cartons where darker and better written than what Marvel has been putting out lately.

Its not that the Spectacular Spider-Man is bad, its just not as good as the older series.

But unfortunately the rest of the offerings haven't been as good.
I absolutely loathed the Manga style Fanstastic Four.

Spider-Man and his Amazing friends from the 80's is pretty good. Its fun and shows quite a bit of the Marvel Universe to casual watchers without being as gritty as 90's Spidey.


Totally Unconnected but still good enough to watch is "The Batman" series.

At first I wasn't to sure, about it, but it started to grow on me after a while, though the Monkey Joker still bothers me.

I'm still a big fan of Mark Hamill's Joker from Bruce Timm's Animated Universe.

the 70s-dc, minus the wonder twins
the 80s-dc, barely.
yhe 90s-marvel. but batman was awesone.
the 0Xs-dc is lookin better. marvels doin too much anime style for my tastes, but the wolverine and the x-men cartoon is great.

I personally love Bruce Timm/Paul Dini's take on the DC universe. From Batman all the way to Justice League Unlimited, they're all great cartoons.

I enjoyed the 90s Marvel stuff as a kid but honestly, I can't watch most of the episodes now, especially Spider-Man and how they constantly reuse footage.

As campy as it was (and it was campy) the old Spider-Man cartoon rocked. I haven't seen much animation from either company, but Marvel has Spidey going for it.

I did like TAS Spider-man, but Now I like Justice League Unlimited the Most, though i hate the fact that they keep on repeating the shows constantly, instead of coming out with new ones.The Animated Transformers (TFA) is ok, kinda.

Hate to break this to you, but Justice League(Unlimited) has long since been canceled. no more shows are going to be produced.

The last new episode was in 2006.

However, I'd also like to see new episodes of JLU. Even if they are straight to DVD releases.

I still haven't seen all of JLU, but I will admit that DC certainly does know how to do a good show. The Bruce Tim stuff has a certain level of maturity to it. Howver, I found that Batman: TAS got a little repetitive, never saw much of Batman Beyond or Superman, but in truth I'm more a Marvel guy than DC(though maybe because I had more exposure to Marvel when I was a kid). Batman: Brave and the Bold is great fun though, and has gotten progressively better.

Yeah, Spidey is a little hard to watch nowadays. However, it was a very quality show for it's time and had a ton of cameos, long storylines, and for the most part had an end. The last two episodes are still great.

That is of course the main flaw with a lot of 90's Marvel shows, they never had a proper ending. Silver Surfer, Spidey Unlimited, MTV Spidey, Avengers, they just ended.

X-Men Evolution started off kind of slow, but by the third season everything came together. However, 90's X-Men had a lot better single episodes(DVD's later this month, awe yeah!!)

Spectacular Spider-Man, from what I saw, is good once you get used to the animation style. I've only seen the episodes once and at kinda random intervals, so it's a bit hard to remember everything, but I do remember the devoting an entire episode to Peter getting rid of the symbiote was great.

Wolvie and the X-Men I've only seen the first few episodes, but it's cool.

On the Direct to DVD front, I'm not sure who "wins". Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2 were cool, but just felt like they were missing something. I enjoyed Iron Man and Dr. Strange. Next Avengers was surprisingly awsome and fun, and Hulk VS. was great too.

Superman: Doomsday was pretty cool, Gotham Knight was ok, I couldn't get into "New Frontier", but Wonder Woman was a great surprise. Well animated, well acted, lots of action, and they went places I didn't expect("Your daughter has a great rack", "I'll castrate you myself"). Green Lantern looks great, mostly because it has Ch'p, my fave Green Lantern based on looks alone. He's a chipmunk, and he can kick the crap out of mostly anyone on Earth(probably, never read any issues with him, but he is a GL).
