George Lucas Comments on the new Spider-man Movie

I'm sorry I just had to post this:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,270874,00.html

It's hidden deep within the article, so here's a more direct quote:

Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Well, it's not "Star Wars."

"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

:)) There's just so much that's ironic about this statement, also, he's working on 2 more Star Wars movies.

Yeah, he's working on 2 Television series. The regular live action Star Wars tv show.

And a cgi animated Clone Wars show. Which will undoubtedly bring in more Clone Troopers action figures for us to whore ourselves on.

I was pissed when I heard he was going the cgi route instead of letting Tartovsky do it. Clone Wars is the single greatest thing to come out of the SW franchise since tESB. My Midichlorians are in a uproar.

Meh, I'm a pre-Phantom Menace Jedi... in other words a REAL Jedi... not a Bacteria Jedi.

There's no such thing as canon. There's only different ways of telling the same story. Miticlorians is one way.

And George Lucas's opinion of Spiderman is as relevant of Stan Lee and Sam Raimi's opinion of Star Wars. It's also as relevant as Martin Scorcese's opinion of Citizen Kane.

I'd rather be stuck on a desert island with the Spiderman Trilogy than the new Star Wars any day of the week. Even without the means to watch them.

Really the only great new trilogy Star Wars movie is Revenge of The Sith. George Lucas saying SM3 silly is calling really like the Pot calling the Kettle black.

Well they'll be killing the best part of Ironman, his alcoholism, for the film. Well he'll be a drunk, just by the end of the movie he won't be, possibly.

Which will leave me wanting Ironman getting drunk and flying around in his armor. Superhero DUI FTW!

Meh, Lucas hasn't made good movie for ages. Really, episode 1 and 2 were rubbish, episode 3 had dialogues which could have been written by a 5 year old (yeah, I'm talking about the Padme Anakin dialogues here).

Lots of special effects don't make a good movie.

A good story on the other hand does.

Really, the only thing the prequels did was to A: Explain how Anakin and Palpatine became what they are. And B: Expand the Expanded Universe.

KotOR takes more from the prequels than it did from OT, but it also managed to avoid the M-Word. The way they portrayed the Force in KotOR II was awesome.

Then again, with the prequels, a lot of the older EU books are falling flat on their faces, given that EU is only semi-official, and any EU telling of Vader's or Palaptine's origins are pointless, now that we have The Official, Strait-from-George Story.

EDIT: And Republic Commando, one of the best FPS games ev4r. (Partially because it took so much from Rainbow Six 3)

They aren't focusing on his alcoholism in this movie. They introduce it as becoming a problem farther in, but it's being saved for the second movie.
