Rather a shocking story, one that I won't be emailing to the missus that’s for sure. Not to sound too flippant but it seems that everything these days can lead to cancer on way or another. I'm just surprised that they now are finding links with this activity.

Apologies if this is not appropriate for the site, I thought it was an interesting read, but yes I did snigger a little when I saw the title. It is a serious topic though and not intended just for laughs.

HPV causing cancer is nothing new, HPV causing throat cancer is news to me though. Good to know, as I'm sure that's the direction a lot of infected couples probably go. The suggestion that kissing could pass it is both terrifying and, I hope, absurd.

Fortunately, IIRC, HPV is treatable though. You can be inocculated against it, there was even a push here in the states to add it to the list of mandatory vaccinations. You can even shake off the virus itself, though I think you're contagious for 1 to 2 years, and if it causes cancer while you have it you're SOL.

Edit: And btw, I'm glad you posted this. This is pretty important news.
