Ship?

The previews look scary and remind me of Independence Day but is that a giant alien robot (mecha)? /:) Oh boy... I saw the TV Trailer Spots two times tonight for this new movie coming out. It looks pretty cool already but I don't think the storyline is too original. Kind of reminds me of several different other science fiction movies of the past. But I'd like check it out and see how good it is. What are your thoughts?

I definitely want to see it. Nothing is original these days, but this seems to have a new twist on aliens.

Aliens that land on earth and want to go back home but we humans won't let them so they start building new weapons? Awesome!
I hope this makes it over here!

It looks original to me. As far as I can tell, it seems as though the US government is taking their technology to create mechas and viral weaponry and keeping them imprisoned.

An alien movie where we're the bad guys? It's an original concept, and a damn fine one at that. Man, Hollywood is learning.

I was very excited when I saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago. Pretty original imo. I'll be there opening night.

You never saw E.T. or the old movie; "The Day the Earth Stood Still"? Humans are just panicky and dangerous when nervous and afraid. And before we realize that we were fooled by more intelligent/dangerous space invaders, humans would want to make sure we have the upper hand in any event. And with Aliens that look like giant bugs, people would be afraid of being turned into bug food. Did you ever hear about the old radio program called "War of the Worlds" by Orson Welles? People believed it and some actually massacred their whole families over that radio broadcast. People would be freaked out if the Governments of the world said tomorrow that UFOs and Aliens were absolutely fact and showed us the proof.

Good point, though in ET and The Day the Earth Stood Still, we weren't oppressing and subjugating the aliens.

And War of the Worlds...it would have been the world's best practical joke had Welles actually intended for that.

Orson Wells was a genius and a great film maker and if you don't believe me go watch Citzen Kane, Touch of Evil, The Stranger, The Trial, or F for Fake and see for yourself.

If District 9 had any real for runner to me I would it would be Alien Nation.

Yes, I know Orson Welles was awesome. You don't have to tell me that.

...what? I mean, I looked up Alien Nation (James Caan and Terrance Stamp? Can't go wrong there) but the rest of the sentence doesn't make sense.

:BOT: I saw District 9 during Comic-Con and it was phenomenal. Peter Jackon introduced it with Neill Blomkamp. Plus Dominic Monaghan and Elijah Woods were sitting behind us (they weren't in the movie but I thought it was hilarious that Hobbits were sitting behind us!).

I only saw the first teaser trailer. My friends that went with me say that some of the money shots and action scenes are in the newest commercials and trailers; though it doesn't take away from the movie.

Not to give anything away but it starts off as a documentary and ends as a 30-minute Rambo action fest. It's clear that Neill Blomkamp got his Halo/video game fix in those last scenes. Hell, there's a gun that lift objects and shoots at people. It's Braindead meets Halo at times.

Let's put it this way: I absolute love Transformers 2 but District 9 does a better job of action. Transformers has dozens of car crashes throughout the movie that almost desensitized me. There is one car crash in the movie that makes me jump out of my seat and go "Holy %^#@!"

I can't wait to see it again. :CON:

Orson Welles is Unicron!

 Of course he's awesome!!!

Also the whole idea for District 9's storyline reminds me of those UFO Alien Conspiratory Theories that are out there about places like Dreamland and Area 51. I found so many sites on the internet dealing with claims that there are "Secret" bases and underground Alien/Government controlled locations in the United States. Check out this one site's listings:

http://www.thewatcherfiles.com/sherry/joint-bases.htm

It's sites like these that claim that many of these places have humans who have been abducted and are being use as food for the Aliens. So if we were told tomorrow that Aliens were real, people would be spooked and become dangerous even to their own families and loved ones. So if there are real Aliens you can guarantee many humans will want to kill them first and ask questions later. Those who claim they have direct knowledge of these secret bases say that Aliens in the past have been kept in captivity against their will. They also claim that we do steal their technology when we can. And sadly they don't live long because of our germs and pollutions. Also it reminds me of that infamous Alien Interrogation footage(supposedly smuggled video from 1996 - Area 51)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3o5SxqmSVU

But yeah Alien Nation was about people wanting to live with Aliens amongst us. But that didn't turn out good either. The Alien Nation was plotting to take over or something like that. Wasn't their symbol that big "V"? Image

Thanks for this thread, and especially Supreme Convoy. I've gone from maaaaaaybe seeing it to a *definite* and ASAP.

I could be wrong (don't hurt me, my ego bruises easily) but I believe Alien Nation coattailed the *classic*, also 1984 released miniseries/TV show V. (With Robert Englund, remember?) V started a whole big trend in the mid80s about alien invasions.

And honestly, for those of us old enough to remember, it was a welcome break from the George Orwell _1984_ fest that life had become.

The aliens in District 9 have vagina dentata mouths. Feminist theory critics will have a field day. (Sorry, I notice what I notice and tentacles are whuts I notices).

HK, of course, so did Blackout.

That's the one I was remembering before Alien Nation. That "V" mini series or movie or whatever that was. Yeah they were trying to allow Aliens to live among humans but that didn't turned out good either. The Aliens were actually trying to take over or something? It was a spooky idea back in the 80's. Anyhow the fact that these Aliens appear to be giant bugs is creepy enough to get them rid.

So its like Behind the Mask:The Rise of Leslie Vernon then?

That movie was amazing. No where near the same genre though.

I'm going to see District 9 no matter what.
