Thee G.I.Joe movie thread (Spoilers contained within)

It was fun. It wasn't particularly deep, nor was it the best movie I've ever seen, but it worked quite nicely, and was jam-packed with some really cool visual effects.

To all you other TF fans, be warned: at one point, I turned to my fiancee and asked her, "Didn't Devastator destroy one of those?" The set choices of Egypt and Paris seem to be a Hasbro theme this year. Promoting what? I haven't the foggiest.

All in all, it was a ride, and a very fun one at that. Chock full of beautiful cleavage, gratuitous naked sweaty-male-torso shots, and with a couple nice little cameos for G.I.Joe fans.

And for the record...

"You're a real American hero."

"Knowing is half the battle."

And...

as said by Heavy Duty: "Yo! Joe!"

Cheers!

Which movie did you enjoy more, G.I. Joe or Transformers: ROTF?

GIJoe. And the only figure I've ever wanted to buy from the Joes was a Hammerhead (freakin' big amphibious tank)

On a 1-10 scale, GIJoe gets 9, and RotF gets an overall 6 from me.

I also enjoyed G.I.Joe more than TF: ROTF. It was much more fun. Plus the story made sense, the acting was pretty good, and the tech was exciting.

What killed ROTF for me was the lack of balanced story, the plot holes, the insatiably caffeine-addled camera, and the desperate humor. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But it sucked. As a movie, it was really really bad.

G.I.Joe, on the other hand, was really really good. It had a fluid story that began in the past, built up through time, and while it didn't give too much past history to any one character (not enough in Snake-Eyes' case), it gave us enough to tell us who these people are and why they're fighting. It also had some really nice homages to the various elements of the original series: comics and cartoon. Which, strangely, ROTF was almost completely lacking (outside of the obvious Jetfire and Devastator and Doctor and Fallen).

Haven't seen it yet (so I skipped the discussion to save myself the spoilers) but any indication that there's going to be a TF vs. GI Joe movie down the road, a la King Kong/Godzilla or Freddy/Jason, or how Iron Man showed up in the Hulk?

No, right? A guy can have hope....

G.I.Joe was a FUN movie!

It was a better story than RoTF, though not better action. But it came close, and it made it funner by being more fastpaced and no moments that made me GROAN. The characters were developed quite nicely, and brought together at the end very well.

The Baroness kicked all kinds of ass.

Scarlett was made to be just eye candy, no matter how hard the writers tried to make her the smart girl. When she put that Joe suit on, I thought it was going to burst from her...top. The Baroness has her beat in spades when it comes to hotness.

The other characters were also fun, and I honestly did not see Cobra Commander's identity coming. It hit me pretty good. But I've never been a Joe fan so maybe it wasn't new to *die hard* fans.

This movie also did for Snake Eyes and Duke what the TF movies did for Bumblebee and Prime, as far as I'm concerned. Until now I didn't care about that characters, no matter how badass everyone else liked them to be. But now, I really like them.

One character I really really REALLY wanted to see was Sgt. Slaughter, even for a cameo. The wrestler who voiced him and looks like him is about 60, but I think he would have been good just for one shot.

Cobra Commander uttered the same line as Megatron at the end of RoTF, so sequel's probably coming.

I didn't stay for after the credits, so I don't know if there are any scenes, especially ones with TF reference. They do have the same studio and one producer, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.

The song during the credits was pretty good, though. Kinda techno, but I liked it.

Overall, 9/10. And only because I didn't see Slaughter and a few more Joe characters.

NO...

I enjoyed it, but like every franchise/comic/video game movie it was not particularly awesome. Still it is worth a look. I think the ladies steal the show, and so does Zartan.

Much better than either TF movie, I think you will be happy even if there are corny one liners, and accelerator suits.

And of course, it is left open for a sequel in which things could be done a little better, you know like we said for Transformers! :D

What bugged me? Big bug-eyed troopers... I want some real COBRA cannon fodder, instead right away, we need the super-human dudes. And Snake Eyes having a mouth. I read that it was not noticeable...it is VERY noticeable!!! The rest, well, it can be dealt with.

The movie feels a lot like the cartoon come to life. It has the same formula except people actually get hit by the missiles, gunshots, etc., and people bleed too. BUt yeah, ridiculous COBRA weapon being used to attempt world dominiation, GI JOE sends small team to try to take it out, then sends the whole freakin's JOE army in to try to destroy the weapon before it destroys its targets.

The credits were cool because they kept showing the stickers that you have to remember placing on any joe vehicle, if you had them as a kid, or have them now..."NO step", "Caution", "Flammable", etc... but after that part is over and it's just credits you can leave cause there is nothing after that.

And again, I must say it, much more enjoyable to me than Transformers, although just like TF, many irresponsible parents brought young kids to the show (Rated PG-13). The humor, and jokes were much less crude though, but yes, there was still major cleavage, and violence/killing.

Go see it, it's fun!!! And yes, I am a joe fan and collector.

It was spaghetti sauce!

And the accelerator suits were in only a bit, and made for some comic relief.

And yes, the ladies did steal the show, especially The Baroness when she kicked the crap out of Scarlett. It was all i could do to keep from jumping up and screaming "hell yeah!"

And I also had some stupid annoying kids to deal with.

Just got back from the movie and I have to say that was a CRAPLOAD of fun! I am a little disappointed they seemed to turn Baroness back into a good girl...for now anyways. But I was very impressed. I was on the edge of my seat most of the movie and the action never seemed to stop.

I agree with previous posters that said the women stole the movie. WHen the hell did Tatum Channing get so frickin hot?!?!? And when did Sienna Miller get implants??? That was a LOT of cleavage...

More fun than TF2 for sure. Gonna take the wife this weekend probabaly. 9 out of 10.

Um, the wrestler that voice him did not only look like him, that was him.

I am going to see it tomorrow as a theater in Baton Rouge wants me there as Cobra Commander (I have a cobra commander costume) and one of my buds as Gen Hawk.
So we get to see it in a digital theater for free!

Me from last summer (while I was still losing weight).

I thought it was very good; the only complaints I can still keep in mind is Wayan's voice constantly changing its tone during the film, the already mentioned mouth on Snake Eyes (why the f*ck would he make himself a mask that has a mouth if he made a vow of silence), and the Cobra Commander mask. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's fights were great, but broken up with other events too much.

I sure would like to see a sequel just to see how they are going to get the Commander, Destro, and Baroness out of prison, reactivate Baroness' mind control, and use Zartan's role as President to their advantage.

Well, I'm no GI Joe expert but Snake Eyes, like all humans, needs to use his mouth to eat food.

That would be a fine explanation, but it didn't even look like it was a movable part of the mask.

have to agree there. The only thing I can think of is it would be molded to fit him specifically for comfort. I'd wager he probably could get chapped lips pretty badly if they were constantly rubbing up against his armor. This at least would allow a modicum of space for his mouth and maybe some extra breathing room- which I note has never been brought up before.

This is where the SE origin of 'vow of silence' as opposed to 'messed up in an explosion' hurts him. Still one can try to explain away the mouth however they want, I hated it. He could always pull it up over his face--to the nose to eat and drink, for breaks, etc.

I guess I can say, SE was the most disappointing for me. Looked bad in costume. Costume made him look bulky, less smooth, and the mask/helmet did not help him at all, and they changed the origin... argg! But yeah, the TF movie, X-Men movie, etc., all have taught us, never to expect anything to stay as it was when you really liked it.

I liked the film over all, but I really liked the origin of cobra commander none of that cobra la bs. The other thing I really liked was the small scene with dr. mindbender I guess that was what paramount was talking about when they said there would one of our favorite cobra characters in a bit part.

Now that I have had some time to digest it, I have to say I LOVED the Cobra logo on the side of the sub! How retro was that! It was awesome!...

...I'm still lost in Sienna Miller's cleavage...:-P

The end of the movie was entirely Star Wars, to the scene where they are escaping with the fire coming up from behind them, to the guy saying "I can't shake him!", and to the Baroness spinning around and shooting out of the back of the manta vehicle. You could easily have inserted Chewbacca manning the gun in the Millenium Falcon and it would have made sense.

I liked the movie a lot, but it was not as good as Transformers.

I think the Baroness is faking it. Even if she's not under direct mind control, i think she's still a Cobra. She's just waiting for her shot to get Destro and Cobra Commander out. Or if she's not faking it now, she will revert back to being a bad girl in the sequel, if there will be one. I *did* like the fact that she turned good at the end. But it was still sweet to watch her smack around that bimbo Scarlett.

And I even forgot about Dr. Mindbender!

I was also pleasantly surprised to see Brendan Fraser make a cameo. What character did he play? He was on screen for only 1 minute when Snake Eyes was beating up Duke.

Did I mention the Baroness is H-O-T? Well, in case I didn't...

The Baroness is F-I-N-E!!!

Brendan Fraser was playing Sgt. Slaughter and to me it was hilarious because it is so not the actor to have play Sgt. Slaughter and I know that's why they had him play it. He had to be in this movie because of Stephen Sommers just like Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi in the Spider-man films because of Sam Raimi.

What??? WHAT?!

OK, I'm all for doing favors for friends...but Slaughter...should have been Slaughter! Fraser should have played Roadblock! Or Dusty! I understand fangirls are also in love with Dusty.

And here I was under the impression that he was Shipwreck. I think that for two reasons: the first that it was leaked information several months ago. The second is that Shipwreck actually has a toy.

Whoever he played, I have been unable to find any conclusive information regarding his role. So he may have been Beachhead or Tunnel Rat for all I know. Not knowing who he was does nothing to hinder my joy at seeing him.

Let the discussion rage.

When he first showed up, Heavy Duty called him Sgt. it was very quick and easy to not hear.
