That damn Oxo Advert

Anyone else getting peeved at that stupid advert for Oxo?

Seibertron has it, along with just about every other site on the internet. It just sits off to one side, and plays a really loud cheer from some crowd. I don't know why the crowd is relevant because I haven't actually paid attention to the advert. The cheer automatically makes me stop wanting to look at it.

But don't you hate advert banners that have sound activated by default? I think its bloody intrusive. I just wanna sit and read some posts and instead I get a half-cheer from an unconvincing studio-recorded folks whaling.

Does quite remind me of those stupid animated smilies. "Oh my god! No wai!" ARGH.

While this suggestion seems kinda contradictory to site policies (ya know, me being staff and such), are you using firefox? If so, I'd suggest getting the AdBlock Plus add on for it. No more ads, no more sounds. Surf the Internet in peace.

I've never come across the Oxo advertisement here. I do find those smiley face ads annoying when I find them. I'm not a fan of sound or video triggers in ads.

Yes! Wikia had those on every other page for a while. It was quite infuriating.

Its like those damn roll-over ads on Windows Live Messenger. You can almost never avoid it.

And then they glitch and appear through whatever I'm browsing on the internet and I have to switch to WLM to roll over and off it to close it, only for it to do it again later.

Solution from your local techno-phobe: Turn your volume on your speakers off? That's what I've done to my computer in my office. If I want to watch a vid, I just click the volume on. Rest of the time, blessed silence.

However, I have to say I sometimes find those noisy adverts incredibly handy. Such as when I'm teaching in a computer classroom. Students who think they can blow off the topic and hit up their Myspace pages...instant toast. (insert sinister anime princess laugh here)

HK, turning everything into a source of pedagogical evil.

That's like plugging your ears when someone is trying to tell you something you don't want to hear; it's not going to prevent any future occurrences, and it deafens you to anything you may need to hear. Ad Block seems to be the equivalent of saying "Back off or I'll knife you good." You don't need to drop your sense of hearing, and they won't be coming back.

That, and I listen to music a lot whilst browsing.
