That will be a good special effects movie to go see this November.

Yeah, Comcast showed about five minutes on Thursday. See it here if you want.

Personally, I'm not impressed. When I start channeling Morbo (EARTHQUAKES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!!) during a preview, it's not a good sign.

It'll wow on special effects, but won't be worth much else. It'll let conspiracy theorists believe they're right about 2012, which is just pure bullshit.

Fearmongering to make a buck has got to stop, especially when it leads to cheesy movies.

It looked way too implausible and over the top to take seriously. The entire Earth caves in except where they happen to be? Yeah right.

Oh yeah not at all pausable but cool special effects. I think I will wait for the DVD myself even though I thought the preview was good.

Jesus Christ, since when do movies have to be plausible to be entertaining?

The most successful and entertaining movies of all time aren't realistic.

That kind of devastation happening without a Death Star is overloading my suspension-of-disbeliefometer. Like Skyfire77 said, earthquakes don't work that way! As an unnatural disaster I could buy it, but not as something that just happens.

Exactly. Shoot 'em Up, Die Hard, Crank, whatever, I don't care that they can't do those things in real life, I want to see some more gun fights and explosions!

I guess I have the gift of being able to just sit back, switch my brain off, and watch some things gets demolished. Although, even I have my limits on suspending disbelief. (Nuking the Fridge)

Yup. Movies don't have to be realistic at all. In fact, what movie is? I'm sure there are some out there, maybe 1 out of a hundred. Still, even some romantic comedies aren't all that realistic. My favourites are movies that are totally impossible, not just implausible. (Die Hard 4 was one: totally enjoyable, totally impossible.)

Evil_the_Nub wrote:It looked way too implausible and over the top to take seriously.

I see these two as two separate things. Implausible: Speed, RoboCop, etc. Over the top: MI-2 which, for me, went so over the top that it was just not fun anymore. MI-2 is a movie I can see where people would find so over the top you couldn't take it seriously. Another one was The Day After Tomorrow, when the ice was chasing them around. Chasing them? C'mon, it's not a demon! I couldn't take the movie seriously after that. Maybe 2012 is one as well: so sensationalistic that it does itself a disservice. I think a movie goes over the top when you start rolling your eyes and groaning.

I might see 2012, but if I don't, it's just because there are plenty of other movies I'd rather see. Pandorum, here I come.

This movie is being brought to us by folks who gave us ID4 and The Day after Tomorrow.

It's a disaster romp with a huge budget. Buy a ticket grab the popcorn and shut your brain off, then enjoy the ride for what it is. Or stay home either way.

I kinda liked Stargate, which seems to be the exception maybe just cos I loved the show. The other stuff I've seen of him I just didn't like, Godzilla, Independenceday (The only bit I liked about that film was Will Smith beating the crap out of that Alien), the Patriot, The Day after Tomorrow and 10000 BC, so that makes one film I liked against all of those, so yes I do hate whatever he does. MAny might like it but I'm not many.

Emmerich had/has nothing to do with the Stargate shows. So, if you liked the movie, you liked it on it's own merits. Outside of a few characters and one planet's name being reused in the series, Emmerich's role in the 'Gate universe is the movie and that's it.

He and Dean Devlin had wanted to make a trilogy, but MGM made it into a series before they could get into a sequel.

I'll give you The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 B.C. but the rest of the films mentioned, were quite good and entertaining fun.

Well, not Godzilla. I'll give you that one to scratch off of the list as well.

The rest beyond those three stinkers are good.

Stargate: I like on it's own merits but I prefer SG1.
ID4: Sorry, I loved this movie. I watched it opening week-end at Horten Plaza, San Diego, as I was down at Comic-con that year. Midnight screening, place was packed, and the uproar in that room when LA got nuked was overwelming. The US Rhah rhah rhah was a bit much but seeing the basis of the story it was at least in place.
Day After Tomorrow: I waited on this one and didn't see it until it was on TV. It was an ok watch, nothing special but good for what it was.
Patriot: was at a friends place, Bored me to tears, went to the other room and chatted until it was over.
10000 BC: haven't watched, didn't look good, no appeal to me.

As for GINO. Remove any reference to Godzilla, and it's a passable giant monster movie, but Godzilla it ain't. In a fight it wouldn't last more than 2 rounds against a proper 'zilla, hell it would lose to Cloverfield in short order if it came to blows.

AAAGH! SWEET PRIMUS! Worst Remake EVER!!! That Slagface ruined Godzilla forever! FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS!!! YAAAYYYY

My opinion is that they should release this travesty of a movie in 3-D instead of The Final Destination. That would be WAAAAAAY more impressive!

And to be fair, Roly's films are always pure bullslag and completley inaccurate!

(Cue montage of day after tomorrow and 10,000 BC clips)

Note this is an official movie, in fact the last Godzilla Movie titled Final Wars. See how incredible long that fight is?

I watched those movies and i still hated them, save for Stargate and that's just cos I love the show and liked it automatically, I still think the show is far better. So I can still say that I hate Emmerich's movies, although I have to give him thanks that Godzilla spawned one of the best cartoons of all time, Godzilla the Series. Basically the original Godzilla in the body of Emmerich's version with a bit of Hanna Barbara's version and it kicks ass.

Herm, maybe I should give that movie another chance it'S been along time, maybe I think better about it today.

Personally, this movie bothers me because I'm kind of a wussy so I don't like a film showing me the world will blow up in a few years. I know it doesn't make any sense, but it bothers me.

Yes, Godzilla was ruined forever, regardless of the fact that the series did not suffer from it in any way.

Personally, I think 3D just takes away from the movie.

While I have no idea what you mean by "inaccurate." I do have to remind you that this IS a Transformers board, and you can't criticize someone for making "inaccurate" fiction without first looking at every piece of Transformers fiction ever made.

That doesn't make you a wussy. That makes you an uninformed mark for the fearmongerers. You're exactly the type of person they go for when the media and official sources try to scare the **** out of us. It works only because we let it.

Trust me, you're not the only person on this planet that got suckered by such a thing. Don't feel bad about it, it happens to all of us.

In our own ways, we each have fears, phobias, and even superstitions. (Ask someone directly and they'll probably tell you no, but it's bull. Everyone has something that bothers them.)

There's nothing wrong with that. That tells me you prefer to look at the positive side of things when possible. Keep doing just that.

And no, the world is not going to end in 2012. Don't let conspiracy theorists, Hollywood idiocy, and a bunch of fearmongerers take over your life.

Forget it and move on. Skip this movie while you're at it. Not because it might frighten you, but because it's going to be pure trash. That, should scare you more than anything.

A bad movie.

Very good point. I don't really believe the world is going to end, I think the part that I don't like about the film is basically everyone who doesn't have access to an airplane is going to die, within the world of the film. That sucks.

But yeah, stupid movie trailers piss me off. That Legion movie looks lik garbage aswell.

Orphan was the last movie that managed to piss me off. Like parentless kids really need more obstacles.

Yes, it does NORMALLY take away from a movie... unless it's a MEGA-SUPER-SPECIAL-AWESOME MOVIE IN THE BLOW-STUFF-UP DEPARTMENT!

Ever heard of two little movies called The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC?
And yes, i have considered all Transformers fitions... and Roly's movies are more nonsenseical that any of them.
