The 201st Decade

...It's not like anyone else has come forward with a decent name for this decade. Anyway, it just hit me--in a couple months, this decade will be over. That just boggles the mind, doesn't it?

Now, the 80s were known for its pop culture fads, like Ghostbusters, Transformers, the Rubik's Cube, Michael Jackson, etc. etc. etc. The 90s were known for boy bands, Beanie Babies, Titanic, etc. So, what will people think of in the future when they look back on this decade?

Obviously, there's the big stuff, like 9/11 and the "War on Terror."

I'm thinking this will also be looked back on as the boom decade for comic book movies, since we've had them every year this decade, and they're finally given the big-budget treatment. Nolan's Batman movies will be the hallmark of those films.

Even though Pixar has been making movies since the 90s, they've really hit their zenith this decade, with films like Wall-E, The Incredibles and Up.

LOST, I think, will be remembered as something that kept people talking for five seasons. Heroes wasted its potential and once it eventually fizzles out people will mostly forget about it.

American Idol.

Nickelback, maybe?

Sadly, I think Hannah Montana will also be remembered as a fad of this decade.

What else?

I thought the end of the decade was 2010, not 2009, just like the end of the millenium was 2000, not 1999. Now, I'm like anyone else. We want to call the end of the millenium/decade on the 09, let's do it. Man measures time how he wants. That diatribe over... :P

Emo will be remembered now as much as goth was in the 90s or punk in the 80s. I know punk has lasted longer than the 80s, but my impression is it will always be an "80s thing."

Robosapein for some kids will be remembered. Maybe the resurgence of 80s fads and toys. Disaster blockbusters. Halo. Saw. Lolcats. The Walking Dead comic books and the "wait for trade paperback" age. The start of the 2012 paranoia. The start of our planned exploration of Mars (is that still gonna happen?). The Jonas Brothers (like it or not, we'll probably see them as we see NKOTB now).

And for the record, I think we're called the Aughts. Or something like that. I think it's British for 0s. Dunno.
