Marvel & DC figure collectors, help me please

Well, I've finally done it. I was bitten by the bug, the radioactive bug. I was in TRU, debating whether to get the Hoist/Mixmaster 2-pack when I look over at the Marvel section and I spy some figures that catch my eye. And to cut a long story short, after a huge battle between my nostalgic inner child and my penny pinching wallet, I walk out of there with a little Deadpool figure from the Wolverine movie line and a comic 2-pack of the Hulk and Cyclops of the same scale, plus Hoist and Mix. I wanted to buy more. Much more! I saw a Captain America by himself and with some other guy I've never heard of. There was also a few Spider-mans, a red & blue one, a black one, and a Spidey & Friends(Dan Gilvezan) 3-pack one. And there were tons of Ironmans of different shapes and series. Oh, and there was a few Wolverines. All of different colors and costumes, but the only one I cared about was the blue and yellow one, who came with a sword for some reason. Why would Wolverine need a sword?? Then on the DC side of things there were a few of the same scale I liked, but not enough to bring home.

But I digress. The point, if you haven't guess, is I want more. I never read the comics, but I was a big fan of the 90's superhero cartoons. Spider-man, Batman, X-Men, Superman, Justice League. I loved them and if I'm gonna be buying Marvel and DC figures, they should look like the incarnations of the characters I remember as much as possible. And I'd like to get them with as few "nobodies" and as little money as possible. So keeping those 3 things in mind, here's my shopping list of characters:

Batman
Green Arrow
Green Goblin
Green Lantern(either Hal Jordon or John Stewart, but if I get John then I have to get Hawkgirl too  . Or I could just get all 3)
Ironman(actually I think I'd prefer him in his Avengers or movie style rather than the classic style. There's just something I don't like about the shape of it. I think it's the "heart face")
Jean Grey
Joker
Magneto
Rogue
Spider-Man(probably both classic red & blue and black)
Storm
Superman
Venom
Wolverine

Basically that would be my top 10, or 15 in this case, so I don't mind getting other characters with them as long as I know who they are. Sorry if I this is a lot to ask, but I just want some idea of which individual figures or sets I should go after first, and which ones are harder to find. I imagine guys like Batman and Superman are pretty tough.

Thanks. You friendly neighbourhood TF, and now DC and Marvel collector.

I've been bitten too. I never bought Marvel figures. I bought a few in the 90s but generally I'm about DC. Then Hasbro came out with these new 3"3/4 figures. I resisted for a while but eventually gave in. I've got following
Wolverine -90's version w/ mask
above w/out mask
Iceman
Cyclops
Daredevil
Spiderman still in package
Black Spiderman still in package
Red Hulk which will stay in the package
Capt America still in package
Ironman (modern version) still in package

I keep them with my Infinte Crisis people cause I thought it would be fun to have a "Universes Collide" collection.

Anyway to answer your question. There are plenty of Wolverines available. I'd get a comicy looking one from the Movie collection. My advice would be to stay away from the cartoon collection. These figues aren't articulated well and look retarded. I've only seen Magneto as apart of one of those Comic 2-packs. I'm waiting till they sell him seperately. I've read in toy mags that Venom will be coming out soon.

As for the DC:IC figures,I don't have much advise. These can be hard to come by. I've been pretty lucky. I have Superman, Batman (blue), Joker, tuxedo Joker, Lex Luthor and like 5 henchmen, Commissioner Gordon and Gotham Swat. I also have some Dark Knight figures and the Walmart Gotham Knight 3-pack which I'd highly recommend just because it has my favorite Batman.

Happy hunting!

EDIT: Oh yea - I think Green Goblins available too. I know HobGoblin is.

EDIT 2: Green Arrow and Green Lantern are "available." I just don't know if you'll be able to find them (at least sold individually)
