4.3 Earthquake in Chicago ... plus we got a foot of snow overnight

So I've been pulling an all-nighter working on Seibertron.com and a few other things this evening. Got to feel a 4.3 Earthquake earlier this morning. Never experienced an earthquake before. Felt like a massive semi-truck was blowing by the house. It was a really weird feeling.

Let my dog out afterwards and saw that we got a foot of snow overnight to top off an Earthquake.

And I live in Chicago. Go figure.

My first earthquake was an honest-to-goodness California one. Being a damn Yankee, I freaked! It was...not my finest moment.

But...wow, an earthquake AND a foot of snow in one place? What is this, some kind of divine punishment for Rod Blagoyevich?

The site, btw, looks awesome! And I shall enjoy abusing this :KREMZEEK: far more than is probably good for me, and definitely far more than is funny.

HK, Sigh, I just have snow. How boring.

Glad to hear both you and First Gen are okay and that the quake wasn't as severe as first thought.

Really makes you wonder what's going on with the plate tectonics right now with the big one that hit Haiti, and now this smaller one, essentially right in the middle of the North American Plate.

There was a 3.something earthquake in my areaback when I was in highschool. Of course on the day that it happened, I was in the only building in town with earthquake-immune floors, so I didn't feel a thing.

4.3 ain't too bad. But it can be disconcerting for many a noob to the rattles.

New Zealand sits on a doozey of a fault line and I grew up with them underfoot. There's been a few in the last couple of years where I thought "oh crap, do I need to get under a desk?"

I am now of the mind that unless the roof is splitting, I stay put. Although, the biggest one I was in recently cracked the foot path and the foundation of my shanty, as well as coming uncomfortably close to dumping a concrete balcony on my friend's head. That was a 6.8!

But in all honesty, I miss them if they're not happening. I almost go into a kind of withdrawal...

As for snow... only been in it once.

Oh yeah, and did your dog go all quiet? That's always a bit creepy when the animal kingdom shuts its yaps for a few minutes before the quake hits.

Been through a couple in 29 Palms and San Diego and few more ground rattlers here in Japan.

My cat does the opposite, he acts up before an earthquake happens, so when our 23 pound cat starts running, it's time to prepare (maybe he's the cause?)

It's also weird here, in Japan, when there's an earthquake, our phones will go off with an alarm and say earthquake on the cover, then a few seconds later...wham there it is.

I hope I never have to experience an earthquake in my lifetime. The coast of BC has been due for in the past 20 years. If we do, then Mkall's local is gonna get f*ed.

I'll do better than Richmond, that poor town is going to literally sink into the sea.

Its certainly a concern.

Back in 1931 my hometown had NZL's worst natural disaster, in it we gained about 40km sq in land as it came up from the seabed.

There used to be a place called "Park Island" that was a peninsula, its now a hill in the middle of soggy farm land.

The concern is if the next "big one" the sea might reclaim that land, and there just so happens to be some major developments, the airport and quite a few suburbs there. #-o

Oh well, we all gotta die of something. :CON:

We've got a little over two feet here, and it's taking a long time to clean up. There's about 28 thousand people who won't have power until next week, to say nothing of the streets that haven't been plowed since Friday.

When I was down at my uncle's place in Charleston, SC in '90 we had a 4.3 or 4.4 quake. Whole place shook for 10-15 seconds, felt like it was more up-and-down than side-to-side.

I slept thru this one too.

Also the one back in the 90's that was a little worse.

I hate snow.

Work at a dealership, it really bites when salt water is falling in your ears, down your back or in your mouth................

Yuck lol

now if I didnt have to shovel or work on snow encrusted cars I might like it more
