Went to see Kick Ass tonight, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting something along the lines of a stupid comedy, and it turned out to be nothing like I expected. I loved the killer Mustang and the guns! I really recommend going to see this if you can.

It is awesome, I too thought this would be just a geeky slap-stick comedy until they started killing people.
And Nicolas Cage was awesome in this.
And if you look at the wall in Cage's home, you'll recognize at least one MArvel villain, there is a pic of Kraven the Hunter on the wall and I'm pretty sure there are other villains on that wall too.
"Wow this looks even cooler than on the photo."
"That's because on the photo it didn't have two Gatling guns attached to it."

I saw it yesterday. It has been awhile since I've enjoyed a new film as much as this one. It knew when to be fun and when to shock you with violence. Big Daddy and Hit-Girl were awesome and so was Kick-Ass at the end of it. I'm still amazed by how well Cage pulled off Big Daddy's speech pattern as a parody and tribute of Adam West's Batman speech. When watching the commercials and trailers, my original opinion was going to be that Red Mist would be a hero that I wouldn't like, so I, personally, am glad of how his character really was in it.

I agree. Big Daddy was a great Batman tribute.
Hit Girl was my favorite. There was just something awesome about an 85 pound 12 year old girl sporting some serious weaponry. I'd go see this movie again!

Yep. Absolutely loved it. Nic Cage was actually good in this unlike the last movie I watched with him in it (Knowing). I agree that Red Mist's car was kick ass too.

Has any one who watched it also read the original Comic? It looks pretty close to the source material, so is there anything extra in the movie that changed, or is it just a direct adaptation?

This is based of a comic?
I never knew, I just thought it was a tribute to comics. I'll have a look into it.
Edit:
OK From what I managed to gather the comic and the script where written at the same time, kindaa collaborating on the projects. Also the movie seems to focus more on the emotional state of the characters than the comic.

The comic is AMAZING...in fact anything by Mark Millar is. The movie was really good too. They changed quite a bit from the book to the movie but (for the most part) the tones and themes are the same. That being said I enjoyed Big Daddy's backstory more from the comic book...it seemed to fit better.
Mark Millar came out with a new book called Nemesis this week. The premise being what if someone like Batman used their powers for evil! Issue one set up what's sure to be another intense book and Millar is good with Hollywood types so hopefully this one will get the movie treatment too!

sounds like an Elseworlds comic I read where Catwoman was the defender of Gotham and Batman was the psychotic killer villain. Still, always a good time.
Just got back from seeing Kickass and I am pleasantly surprised. I'm pretty much in the same boat as Michellatron. Thought it was going to be a stupid (in a good way) superhero rip but it turned out to have a much more serious tone with the humor mostly being tongue-in-cheek. Still, very impressed and entertained.

The first hour of the movie follows the comic pretty closely. Then in the second hour takes on a life of its own, deviating from the book but ends the same way. I don't have a complaint about that since both are its own entity.
But I thought it was an extremely fun movie!

I was actually expecting something like "Another Teen movie" or some such rubbish.
But I was pleasantly, pleasantly surprised. I loved it. Truly a great movie. The R18 just made my day!
I woudl go see it again but the local cinema had really limited screening times.
