I know some people don't like him for what he did to Macross, Southeren Cross, and Mospeda to help create Robotech, but he helped bring anime to the US and he helped make it popular with releasing films like Akira.

What sucks is that he was going to involved with Robotech for it's 25th anniverasy.

 :-(

well that just sucks....

i was looking forward to the 25th stuff they were going to bring out. I did like robotech cos it was cool to see how the whole human operating robot was taken because we had to wait untill the issue of Masterforce on DVD to see what the japanese were planning with transformers at the time.

tis a shame.

RIP Carl Macek

A lot of people dislike Robotech due to how it was created from parts of SDF Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada, but Robotech was one of my first exposures to anime. The same goes for Astro Boy as opposed to Tetsuwan Atom and Voltron instead of Beast King Go-Lion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. I think that Mr. Macek played an important part in helping to bring anime into North American popular culture. It wasn't the most ideal way for anime purists but it is what it is and many people can attribute exposure to reworked anime as a starting point for leading them to an eventual fandom of anime.

Mr. Macek, while involved with the anniversary of Robotech was by no means the main person working on the current plans at Harmony Gold. His passing will not cancel those plans.

That said, I know many in the anime community who have bad mouthed Macek for years for his "reworking" of the original shows" , but I am glad I am not in that grouping. This is sad news and a shame we have lost a visionary who helped build the foundation of anime in North America and other markets.

true, but i remember seeing robotech video's in shops when i was picking up transformers video's and always wondered what it actually was, and it - aside from later reading the then published Manga Mania - was my first exposure to anime.

ah well....
