http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuFhGR4QDd4WTF?!
Did they really not have anything else to bitch about back in the 80s?
Claiming that Voltron and Transformers have occultic overtones?
And then basically saying if you watch/read either one you are going to Hell.
Honestly, it made me laugh. I thought it was a joke.
When I found out it was real, I laughed even harder.
I guess when it comes down to it, people will always bitch about something

He picked on transformers for being violent?

Transformers was actualy praised for being less violent than a great many of the other shows at the time.
O and shouln't this be in the philosophers form?

Maybe,
So, if you mods think so...can you move it?
If not, leaving it here is fine too.
But seriously, what occultic overtones were seen in Transformers?

I have studied a little bit of child psychology and it always pisses me off that the studies done to show that "incert popular icon" = violence and evil, they always always take it out of context!
The example from the both teh Transformers and Voltron taken in isolation look pretty dreadful, but in context have the xact opposite meaning!!!!both those episodes are ment to show how evil the bad guys are and invoke hatrid towards them!!! How the hell does that promote violence!!!!
The people who make those studies make me sick-but they also make me laugh because they are so retarded!
Did u know that the original batman series was nearly cncled because
"boy wonders tight pants and leggings inspire deviant homosexual behaviour in children"

And that's coming from a teacher ladies and gentlemen!
Usually they are the enemy of everything children(and older people who like to keep their inner child alive) stand for

What does TF and voltron have to do with demons? Haggar was a villan and the 'death' of Orion Pax in the TF clip wasn't final, he comes back as Optimus prime. I wish paranoid christians (and religon in general) would stay out of entertainment all together.

Well this managed to piss me off. Just goes to show that no matter what year it is, you have insane overly religious zealots telling you you'll go to Hell for watching or playing something.

When Christian speakers jump to conclusions like that, it damages not only their own credibility, but other Christians' as well. The clips show Megatron acting evilly as a clear villin, and even in that short clip of an episode I probably haven't seen in 14 years and don't really remember, I could tell the religious guy had (no pun intended)shot himself in the foot.

If you're mad now, just think: the same people who spout off about TF's, video games, and D&D being influenced by the hand of Satan himself and clear indications of the coming apocalypse...
...are now the same people running the United States.
Now how do you feel?

I wish it didn't happen here. You'd think, in the 21st century, we'd be getting better about this kind of stuff, but we're not. No kidding.

I know how u feel dude-it is nice to live in a down to earth country.
I love how Irish people cant take **** in their stride-and hav a sense of humour!
Did anyone hear that thing that happened last month where Family Guy did an episode about Peters Irish Dad slagging the Irish? The Irish in America gotta there oanties n a bunch and started screaming for the episode to be pulled because it was insulting to the Irish-all the media in Ireland said, F**k it! Its a cartoon, plus its funny, who cares!
You gotta love that attitude!

I'm not sure where to begin with that one. Wow.
If you dig deep enough, yeah, there's some symbolism.
Such as:
Prime as a Christ figure. Killed, and resurrected, thus saving his people.
Megatron as a Faust figure. Made a pact with Devil.
Yet...good won out overall. Are they intended as a replacement for God, or Christ? Of course not! Could they perhaps be designed even slightly on either one of them? Of course. TransFormers however, are not the first, nor the last to use that basic idea.
Voltron:
Now, this one I could see a little more tie in to a religious thing.
For example:
King Alfor died saving his people and he guides his daughter as Voltron (the chosen one basically) returns from the grave to fight once more against evil. (God/Christ character)
King Zarkon I'd say is the Devil in the storyline, and his witch is a witch. I'll give 'em that.
However, I come back to this: None of this was intended as a replacement for God or Christ, it was just based on Biblical issues somewhat. Good still wins out over evil.
Now, if I remember correctly...Voltron was actually supposed to have some religious ties, the crown and the cross on the family crest, etc. (If I can find the site that explained it, I won't look like a complete tool having said this)
Granted, it's not always the best way to go, but you don't see Christians bitching about George Lucas and Star Wars.
I mean, Anakin was a virgin, immaculate birth. No one complained there. I have to admit, as a Christian, the first time I saw "The Phantom Menace" and saw that part, it bothered me. I almost walked out, but something told me to stick around and pay closer attention. I was proven wrong, he gave the Bible a science fiction spin, and updated the story so all people could see it and let them make their own decisions. Still...he never made it as a replacement for God or Christ. Based on, not a replacement.
It's stupid, yes. However, I think God has more important worries on his mind, and I know Star Wars, TransFormers, and Voltron will *NOT* send you to Hell.
But those who don't know...are going to get the wrong message because of people like these two idiots. I understand they were standing up for what they believe in (and that's great, I'm impressed someone would have the balls to stick to their guns) but this is a ridiculous crusade.

If u really wanna get down to it the resurection is stolen from alot of other beliefs!
Horus in acient egypt was concieved after his father (the king of gods) was dead, and had has his penis removed! He then walked the earth as a man for a while righting wrongs/teaching people etc. Celtic Mythos is full of mighty heros who die, or go to a land of life beyond this, etc, and come back to fight as heros.
It is an old story, should nerds start to bitch about the churchs hijacking of other symbols?

For that stuff, check out the Mithraism thread. It's probably lower on the page.
Also, didn't the Voltron base have a gigantic penticle on it? (A penticle is a right-side-up star. Penta
gram is the up-side-down one)

But it is true that TFs have the

I consider these guys who call Transformers the devil to be in the same category as those attempting to discover the phsychological subtext in the early Superman comics, there comes a point when your just reading too much into it.

Yea know I realy have to wonder wht this guy would have made of GI JOE. Probably something along the lines of promoting worship of Asmodeous.
