Seriously, I just stumbled upon Buffy on TV, and I just loved how rocking the intro music was and the memories of watching it as a kid.

Now? Twilight? Vampire Diaries?

I wasn't even a fan of Buffy back in the day. I grow tired of plotlines in stuff like Buffy, Dr.Who, Heros ect. They're about as predictable as Pokemon - only not anywhere near as funny. Therefore I don't really have a problem with Twilight and its ilk. Let the people that enjoy it, enjoy it. After all, it's popular pulp-fiction - if it goes down the line and becomes a classic, that will simply be a way to reflect to past generations what our society was like at the time.

It's no good judging taste. There is only one kind - Your kind.

In defense of Vampire Diaries, they at least keep to the some what "tradition" of Vampires. Twilight however craps all over that.

I liked Buffy until it started getting all romantic and "ooh *guy who is now the guy star on Bones* you have a soul! You can't kill anyone because it will tear at your girly conscience!"

I have a low opinion of sparkly vampires, waste of good film if you ask me. But live and let live. If people want to watch crap, who are we to stop them?

But it would be nice to go to a movie and not have to sit through a twilight preview, and it'd defintely be nice to not hear about how hunky/sparkly/in touch with feminine side the vampires/wolves are on every second minute of the news.

Anyway, it'll be gone in a few years.

It lasted one season and was cancelled about two years ago. Not really new. :P

You and other Buffy fans will hate me for this but I consider Buffy(the movie and the TV series) to be in the same group as Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and any other vampire related shows/stories that, to me, are largely high drama productions that use the concept of vampires in their stories.

I do recognize that Whedon did elevate the Buffy franchise with his work on Buffy as the TV show is better than the movie.

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer was pretty good (especially seasons 4-6), Angel was OK, but by season 4 I was totaly lost and bored with it, season 5 was a breath of fresh air for the series.

I like the idea of vampire civil rights in True Blood.

Seconded. While I liked Buffy when I was young, but now, because of the more-than-convient vampire deaths (just poke them with a stick and they will turn into dust, you won't even have to worry about cleaning the bodies up) Buffy and Charmed is on the same level.

Funny, but I think the japanese animes (Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D) are the closest to the original vampire concept.

Never really watched buffy, but I preferred my vampires as soulless and villainess. And my idea of a romanticized is the Interview with a vampire variety. Soulless, but still with personality and wit and no denial about what they are. Now that's a vampire.

Buffy's quality slipped after season three, but season four wasn't too bad. After that... *Shudder*

Twilight is overrated. In every way. It's overrated by people who love it and people who hate it. No, they're not the best novels ever. They're poorly written, the plot sucks, and the vampires are "vegetarian."
But they're not the worst things ever written, either. Book one on its own isn't too bad, if you can get past certain things. Book three is kinda entertaining, as well. Books two and four... well, there are some issues I have with those books that I just can't get past. :BOOM:

Yes, I did read them all. People told me I couldn't make fun of them until I read them, so I read them.

But I suppose I'm a little biased. I've never really been a vampire person. But I did really like Buffy, where the vampires were evil and gross and actually wanted you dead.

I prefer the vampires in stuff like From Dusk Till Dawn and Blade over stuff like Twilight, Buffy, and whatever other flavour-of-the-week vampire show is out. The whole vampire thing has gotten ridiculous over the last 5 or 10 years or so. As far as horror TV shows, I'm waiting out for the Walking Dead. Zombies > vampires.

I liked Buffy in the beginning. But as they got on with the series and started to add odd stuff, I lost interest in it.
I'm not into vampires with souls, lesbian witches, or monsters-as-boyfriends.

I don't mind moral dillemas, as they do make the series interesting, but when your heroine starts sleeping with the things she should be killing, then that says to me that the series is starting to veer off course.

And Twilight is just bad all around.

To me, vampires are monsters. They drink blood, are pale because they are physically dead, and they have fangs and claws. They are 'immortal,' they come out only at night (sunlight destroys them), and they don't have souls.
What they are is essentially nightmares-in-the-flesh, and extremely dangerous when encountered.

They are not boyfriend material, and they do not 'sparkle.' :-x

I agree 100%.
I've always had a problem with the rash of romanticized vampires that have dribbled out over the years. My vampire education came from the original 70's production of Salems Lot with David Soul, which terrified the crap out of my adolescent self back then. The movie depicted them as filthy, animalistic things, scratching at your window at night and spreading their disease throughout the town. I used to have nightmares about Barlowe the lead vampire. Now THOSE were vampires!

I only caught one showing of Buffy, which I thought was fairly creepy, but only because it deviated slightly from the Vampire theme. It was the Hush episode with those ghoulish heart-stealing gentlemen guys.

And Kudos to the member who mentioned it-Helsing most definitely rocks! ;)

Oooh definately. I can't stand the romanticized vampire stuff either. It makes the vampire into something cheesy, stripping it of it's horror. Plus the vampire's lover (almost always it's the girl who crushes) ends up wanting to become a vampire themselves. I think that's lame.
And that's another thing that the Twilight novels do, is think that being a vampire is 'fun.'
I don't think that being a vampire would be fun, isn't it supposed to be horrible? Maybe at first it could be (especially if the 'becoming' was voluntary) but I imagine that after awhile the 'novalty' wears off, and that they HAVE to drink blood, and that after watching all their loved ones die from old age, it stops being quite so 'fun.' Then they just 'exist' until they are destroyed.

As concerns Twilight,

Glitter in the sunlight...live in the forest...fly...

Those aren't vampires, they're faeries.

I've never watched Buffy or Twilight, one's too campy and the other is too girly. I like vampires in the Dracula style, ancient and powerful. Commanding legions of the undead and the creatures of the night.

At any rate, prefer my vampires as predators craving for blood.

The average vampire mook should be brutal killer who will show no sorrow or remorse.
Elder vampires should show more sophistication and cunning.

Heh, I guess we can all agree that the vampires got gayed up and the werewolves got castrated.

Twilight f*cked up our most beloved horror icons.

Just look at this:

Things used to be about alcohol, drugs and sex when I was a teen, but nowadays it's about vampires and werewolves, WTF!!??

Really, getting high or having sex would be therapeutic for these guys.

Guess I'm getting old because I don't get the kids nowadays.

Those "werewolves" are just cosplaying emos.

It wasn't Twilight that started to f*ck up vampire myths, personally I blame Interview with the Vampire. While it had redeeming aspects, it romanticized the vampires' life too much.

The last good vampire movies I saw were Underworld 1-2 (didn't have time to see Rise of the Lycans yet)
