Dubs that make you go "OH GOD MY EARS!"

What are the dubs that are really painful to you? Im not trying to start a dub vs sub debate. Im talking about dubs that are (in your opinion) very bad. If you ask me, I can name a few (most of them are in french. Which is VERY ironic since its my primary language. Meh, I guess some dubs are unsalvageable). Im sorry most of these example are in french, but hey...its not like they air german dubs in Canada, right? :P

Transformers Energon (French): Horrible, oh so HORRIBLE. The robots all sound the same, as if done by the same dude. They all have the same deep tone. Even Arcee.

Transformers Cybertron (French): Similar to the above. Probably done by the same dude. You can see for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmRaNyBFyVU

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (French): Ouch. Not the worst, but failing Kamina, Simon and Yoko mean an INSTANT DEATH SENTENCE for that Dub. You can watch Kamina's "epic" introduction, in all its horryfying glory here: http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/actus/2009/04/23/Gurren-Lagann-les-premisses-de-la-version-francaise

Karin (English): Yeah, that one clip confirm it to me: ITS BAD!

Sailor Moon, S series. I have nostalgic memories of Classic and R, but S is where it hit the fan.

Cardcaptors. :-x

Their take on One Piece wasn't too bad, at least from a vocal standpoint. the rest of the editing is a bit harder to digest.

I grew up with Dutch and French dubs. I can live with French dubs, most of the time, but Dutch dubs tend to just make me cringe. There's just something about them that makes them feel so awkward.

North Sunrider....is posting.

I can't stand redubs of any kind. It ruins the experience for me - working around lip-syncing is frankly a translators nightmare and often leads to the story being altered in ways that can assasinate character development (Vegeta "He killed my parents! SOB!). Subtitles all the way.

I agree with you on this one x.x; Though, to my understanding, the English dubs to Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory were done by the Chinese speaking English, not actual people who were brought up on the English language. You could tell they were struggling :P

I'm all for subtitling: when anime is brought over, the dubbing companies seem to take waaaay too many liberties in westernizing the content, stereotyping the voices, and altering the cultural references. I watch most of my Transformers in Japanese with subs for these very reasons:

The English dubbing/editing to Cybertron was putrid in my opinion ><; I watched the first three episodes in English, but this series was so rearranged and mutated that clips from Cybertron ep. 1-3 were taken from as far as ep. 10 in the Japanese version. Disgusting. I hate KidsWB when it comes to dubbing. They butchered Car Robots, Cybertron (Galaxy Force), and Cardcaptor Sakura (among others).

This was more true years ago, but dubs have learned a lot since then. Especially when they don't bother marketing to kids and instead market to anime fans. Look at Ghost in the Shell, or Code Geass, or Gurren Lagann. Hell, a lot of people consider Cowboy Bebop's dub to be superior to the original Japanese.

That said, any of 4Kids' anime. Some of their original shows (TMNT, Sigma Six, etc.) are actually pretty good. What they did to One Piece was unforgivable. FUNimation attempted to salvage what remained, and it almost worked.

Actually, now that you mention it, I have watched the Ghost in the Shell dub, and it was pretty good. I've heard the same about Cowboy Bebop, so I may just crack down and watch the dub soon =) Thank you for the suggestions. Most of the dubbed anime I've seen was from the 90's or early 2000's.

*Raises hand* I second the Cowboy Bebop dub. That is how you respect a series. I honestly hear the english voices in my head.
