I thought the movie was insanely fun. Totally in the vein of the first movie.

There was no point in having the Yakuza member except for the scene with a sword fight in the meadows reminiscent of a samurai movie.

I for one, applaud this decision.

Not only am I excited about the upcoming Alien movies, I really hope there's a chance to do a good Aliens vs. Predator movie (which is an idea I cannot believe people can screw up).

Yup the movie is awesome, I watched it yesterday with a mate.
Did you get a DVD with your ticket too? I haven't checked out what it does yet.

I still don't know what to think of the new Predators in this movie, especially since they hunt other Predators.

Yea they did over here in Germany, but it seems to just consist of the trailer and character introductions and stuff like that.

That was a great movie indeed. I was a little leery going into it considering how AVP: Requiem went and that Adrien Brody was cast as the lead. But He and everyone else in the film did a pretty good job.

I also noticed that they had Brody's character using some of Arnold's lines from the first film. I love little easter eggs like that.

I loved this movie. It totally captured the same feel and aesthetic as the first Predator movie, AND it beat the **** out of the AVP films.

I, too, was a little put off by the two groups of Predators, but it really didn't play that big a part in the film anyway. To me, it seemed that the smaller (Classic) Predators had a code of honor that the larger ones lacked. I got the impression that the larger variety was more barbaric, thus making it understandable that they'd hunt their cousins.

Apparently that is their purpose, I did a bit of digging and apparently the new Predators are called Black Blood Predators, are outcasts and kill for fun without honour, are even more ruthless and their only aim is to evolve into better killers by changing their equipment and DNA - which pisses the classic Predators off.

Something I noticed is that every "hero" Predator always dies at the end of the movie, and not just the "bad guy" ones.
I love how this negates Predator 2 and does the same as the Alien franchise, I'm pretty sure the next movie will be called Predator 3 then followed by Predators Resurrection or something like that. :P

I cant wait for Alien 5.

And yea the DVD is nothing but trailers and TV spots.

Rodriguez stated that the movie ignores Predator 2 and AVP AVPR which is why the movie is called Predators like Alien and Aliens instead of Predator 3 or such.

Also the movie mentions that there has been contact between humans and a Predator once before and mentions the events from the first movie. If Predator 2 had happened in this movies continuity it would have been mentioned especially since it happened in a major city.

So it's like most of the Godzilla Millennium series where (almost) every movie ignores every movie save for the first.

Spoilers from the "alternate ending" are below.

I read the script and they changed the ending.. The scene in the trailer with all the laser targets popping up on Adrien Brody's chest Is the alternate ending..

This is the alternate ending from the script..
*****ALTERNATE ENDING*****
EXT. PIT - NIGHT
EDWIN
I could promise you this wouldn’t
hurt. But then I would be lying.
She strains to whisper something. Inaudible.
EDWIN
I’m sorry. I didn’t quite catch
that.
Ear at her mouth. Three tiny word:
ISABELLE
So would I.
Something flashes in her hand, drawn from Edwin’s breast
pocket.
HIS SCALPEL.
SLASH!
He dodges. Grins.
EDWIN
You missed.
ISABELLE
I didn’t.
A thin line of blood wells up on his neck. Nothing more than
a paper cut.
In his own words:
ISABELLE
Very poisonous. Very deadly. All it
would take is one scratch.
On Edwin, comprehension dawning. And then...
The poison from the plant -- still coating the edge of the
scalpel -- hits him like a ton of bricks. His core
temperature rising. Neurons firing. Brain boiling inside his
own skull. Blood seeps from his eyes, lips, nose.
92.
He SCREAMS. Convulses. Doesn’t go gentle into that good
night.
All the torment inflicted upon his untold victims is visited
upon Edwin ten fold.
EXT. HUNTING CAMP
Black’s form careens into frame next to the totem.
It reaches for its gauntlet. Starts PUNCHING in the self
destruct code.
THWACK! The axe severs the arm at the elbow.
The creature HOWLS.
ITS POV: The last thing it’ll see on the way to hell is
Royce’s axe, as it descends toward it.
Driving it backward. Into the spikes of the totem.
BLACK.
FADE IN.
EXT. HUNTING CAMP - MORNING
A newly born sun peeks over the horizon. The long night --
and the terror it brought - are finally over.
The camp. Or rather what’s left of it. Smoldering. Decimated.
Post appocalytic.
The body of the Black Super Predator hangs off the totem, a
spike driven through the side of its head. Poleaxed.
Royce and Isabelle sit at the base of the monument. Bleeding.
Battered. 12 rounds. Still standing.
Nothing is said. Nothing needs to be said.
Silence.
Cut short by--
Ground begins to vibrate, barely perceptible at first.
Growing stronger, rising in intensity and volume.
93.
As if a freight train was coming toward them.
Slowly Royce stands up. Isabelle alongside him.
Ready for whatever comes next.
Dust and ash swirl all around, obscuring vision in all
directions.
Then the cloud settles, revealing--
A PREDATOR SHIP
This isn’t the Enterprise. Ugly. Battered. Functional.
They stare.
A form SHIMMERS into view. A Predator. Another. More. About a
dozen of them.
Royce and Isabelle. No energy to fight. No point to run. They
simply wait.
Predators part like the Red Sea. Their leader -- his armor
different from the rest, covered in trophies from untold
hunts -- approaches.
Surveys up our duo. The devastation. Last but not least, the
slain Black Super Predator.
Slowly he removes his helmet.
The face beneath it belongs to--
DUTCH
The man. The myth. The legend.
DUTCH
Not bad, kid. Not bad at all.
SMASH TO BLACK
THE END

I saw it today and thought it was pretty god damn sweet. Very cool. I loved how all the different characters had like...a single weapon and they stuck to it. It was a lot of fun, and the new Predator is a total bad ass.

I was confused why that AWESOME bit from the trailer wasn't in it, but feel slightly happier now reading the above. :)

wasn't bad. felt a little let down at the endeing.

and about Danny Trejo. If they had just given him a Machete :P
(the trailer for machete was right before Predators and i was really hopin he'd survive longer)

nothing seems retconned about predator 2, wasn't all the evidence was destroyed at the end? or a giant government cover up

the woman had only heard about the one story, doesn't mean others havent happened

She was working for the C.I.A. until recently when she went Black Opps for Israel, which is why she knew of the events in the first place.

Well, if I may interject a little bit of trivia, the Predators that hunt other Predators are called 'Bad Bloods.' They are considered dishonored (or something like that) and are held in extreme contempt by other Predators. They usually get hunted down themselves and killed. :-B

Black Super predators are what the avp wiki is calling them, but that is a ridiculous name, and isn't anything near official. Its just what that wiki call them (unless there is some other source i'm missing).

Yea, every other place just calles them by different types, like the "Tracker Predator" "Berserker Predator" and "Falconer Predator". Black Super Predator does sound stupid, but they do look pretty different from the "Classic Predator", especially the face design.
But I'm guessing it's something like different "races" like Caucasian, Asian etc.
I wouldn't mind seeing an all-out war between them though.

Yea Bad Blood does discribe a Predator that hunts other Predators, while also being without honour and just killing as much as possible, just like the ones in the movie, sorry on that Zombie Starscream.

I may want to have a crack at the Predator comics, are they any good?

they refer to other "clans" but not races (but it looks to be the same thing). the smaller ones are the "jungle predators" that we're used to, the new one s are a different race or clan, or whatever you wanna term it

What up Supreme! Long time no see how have you been?

I used to go by Nova-Ting Ranger.

Also, so far everything I've heard has been great about this movie. I could never understand how Aliens got so many more movies than the Predator franchise. I mean you just need one Predator to make a good movie, where as Alien had thousand to a dozen per movie (except for the first one).

I don't know maybe because Alien had a huge impact on the audience, critics and the industry back then?

That was cool, too. There was a lot of homage to the first one, especially the end credit song. And the Yakuza fight started exactly like the fight between the Predator in the first movie and Billy (except the Yakuza guy didn't cut his own chest first). I think they even used the same music.

My only complaint was the two Predator classes: it's cool that they had the two classes, but the bigger class seemed to trivialize Schwarzenegger's and Glover's victories in the first two movies. Now we're to see that they beat only the weaker Predators? Also, no one said "You're one ugly m---f---"! I was totally waiting for that line and they gave Adrian Brody more than a few opportunities to sneak it in!

Dead Metal wrote:Also the movie mentions that there has been contact between humans and a Predator once before and mentions the events from the first movie. If Predator 2 had happened in this movies continuity it would have been mentioned especially since it happened in a major city.

I just took that to mean that incident wasn't referenced. I know it should have been, but I think in the context, she was talking about covering herself in mud. I can't remember the dialogue, but did she refer to "one" incident or the "only" incident? Seems a little far-fetched not to reference the Predator attack in a big city, but you know movie governments and their flawless movie cover-up stories. Besides, how many people but Danny Glover and those characters that died know for sure there was a Predator? Even the subway attack was too dimly lit to really see anything and the woman watching Jeopardy probably didn't really know what was going on. I'll have to go back and watch it again.

And I'm not sure why everyone hates on Predator 2. That movie was a solid follow-up!

Dead Metal wrote:"Tracker Predator" "Berserker Predator" and "Falconer Predator"

According to IMDb, the most (un)reliable source of movie information, these were the names of the three super Predators, not the type of Predator. For instance, the Falconer Predator was probably the guy with the robot bird.

"Bad Blood" is the term given for any Predator that turns against other Predators.

There's even a sub-set from them called "Killers" who actually use Xenomorph's for help in their hunts. (See AVP:Three World War comics)

The movie it's self ... nothing spectacular. Pretty enjoyable. I'm with M,G! in that I don't think they ignored Predator 2, just that Isabelle wasn't aware of that particular event.

Turns out that the "exclusive fan DVD" is nothing but the only real promotion for the movie, it's just trailers and TV spots, so instead of advertising their movie on TV they decided the only promotion it needed was a trailer in theatres and the entire promotion advertisements on a DVD you can only get by purchasing a ticket to the movie. :BANG_HEAD:

I don't know why everybody seems to hate it, I don't hate it as I haven't even seen the first one yet.
The dialogue went something like
Duke's team was killed in 87, the Predator has infra-red sight, we don't know much about them, Duke only survived because he covered his heat signature with mud, he then told the CIA what happened and the description he gave matched that thing exactly. No mentioning of stuff happening in Predator 2, combined with the fact Romero himself stated the movie reboots the franchise while ignoring part 2 I say it's a safe bet that Predator 2 never happened in this new continuity.

The only thing it was missing was Adrien Brody saying Arnold's classic line "You are one ugly motherf**ker!" when he knocked the last Predator's mask off.

BTW, so far the best movie of the summer is The A-Team, without a doubt. The funnest movie in a long time, probably since the first Transformers.
