Am I the only Transformers fan here who thinks Star Wars sucks?

I don't think it sucks but it is highly overrated.

Would you like to try supporting your argument?

Perhaps with more than one inflamitory statement?...

I'm in a "CP shoots, aka Locks, first" kind of mood today. Get to work.

Sure why not.

1. The story is lackluster (the third movie they basically blow up the death star again and have a hairy forest party).
2. Lightsabers are mag lights with no modification to them.
3. It has been milked to death in terms of merchandising and crappy tie in TV shows.
4. the acting is terrible.
5. It was promoted on the basis of new technology (specifically 5:1 sound)

and many other points

In answer to your first question, no, I doubt you are the only one. I'm sure there are others.

I'm not one of them.

I'm not even the biggest fan of Star Wars but your points in the negative are poorly thought out and antagonistic.

Worst thread of the month in my opinion. Of all the things one could complain about in Star Wars that was all you have?

Better luck trolling somewhere else. Don't post again in this thread until you have something to contribute.

Everyone else may resume their attack on the Death Star.

Depends. Are we talking about the original films, the Clone Wars stuff, or the novels?

The same here, especially the orginal trilogy. I mean the specail editions are million better times better over the old versions. The prequels, in particular parts 2 and 3, are really the best in the series.

Really?

I have to admit to really liking Episode 3, but I don't think I could take any of them over the interactions between Han, Leia, and Lando in Empire.

I will admit there were some upsides to the special editions but calling them a "million times better" is heresy in Star Wars. Though not as bad as...

This is something I'd avoid saying in public. Saying Attack of the Clones is better than Empire Strike Back never ends well. Revenge of the Sith...it's not AS bad, but it's still risky.

Nightscreech wrote:1. The story is lackluster (the third movie they basically blow up the death star again and have a hairy forest party).

Yeah, because nothing else happens in Return of the Jedi.

Nightscreech wrote:2. Lightsabers are mag lights with no modification to them.

...Really? Damn, I need to get a mag light if they project a blade of energy that can cut through nearly any substance. Unless you mean the hilt, but that's crazy because I've never seen a mag light that resembles a lightsaber hilt.

Nightscreech wrote:3. It has been milked to death in terms of merchandising and crappy tie in TV shows.

Well, that's Transformers for you--wait, what are we talking about?

Nightscreech wrote:4. the acting is terrible.

Harrison Ford is an A-List actor because of Star Wars.

Nightscreech wrote:5. It was promoted on the basis of new technology (specifically 5:1 sound)

It was promoted because, at the time, it had the greatest special effects seen in film.

I dunno, the five you posted were pretty bad.

I loved it as a kid, but the older I get the harder it is for me to enjoy.

I think Attack of the Clones would be better if they updated the effects to the level of Revenge of the Sith's. It was too greenscreen and the effect compositing is way off once a real person or object was in the shot. That said a select few of the games were great to play in for me.

Is it wrong that I found the Original Clone Wars Cartoon better than the new Trilogy? It really piqued my interest, and made General Grevous look amazing. However, when I saw him in the movie itself, he was lame and tame by caparison. I don't want start a flame over this, but I think Lucas let himself believe his own hype too much and let it get to his head. Case in point, Legend of the Crystal Skull. I think if there was someone near by who wasn't a fanboy/girl who wasn't afraid to bust heads with him the new Trilogy would've been better. Also, where does he get off thinking he can direct after letting those skills accumulate nothing but rust and dust for twenty plus years?

i concur.

Then again I think the same thing of lord of the rings.

which is weird because i absolutely love sci-fi and fantasy. but the 2 "biggest" series are just kinda boring

I like Star Wars. I'm not an avid fan, and I only somewhat cared if Han or Greedo shot first, but I like it way better than Star Trek.

I'll watch them from time to time.

A bit testy today, are you, CP?

As for the topic, I agree with it being a bit overrated. The story has gotten a bit more ridiculous for me each year I get older, but I still have fun watching most of it. I can't say whether I prefer the PT or the OT, both have positives and negatives. I do think Ep. 3 was the best of the PT of course, and it was marred only by bad acting in Hayden Christensen's and Ian McDiarmid's interactions. Specifically the scene where he is first given the name of Darth Vader. Otherwise, the fighting scenes are spectacular, as are the SFX and music. However, Empire is still my favorite to watch, along with Ep. 4. Basically, if I had the time, I'd watch all 6 in a row, dedicate an entire day to Star Wars and junk food. Good times. Now, the order of preference:

The Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace

I perfer seeing Christopher Lee beating Obi-Wan and Anakin, and fighting Yoda to a standstill over a film that is a sci-fi take of El Dorado, I mean come on John Wayne and Robert Mitchum and company will always beat Ford, and Hamil and company.*

I'm way too huge of a Star Wars nerd to answer this without flaming so let me just say this:

Without Star Wars, sci fi as you know it today, simply wouldn't be here. SW revolutionized the industry in ways people hadn't even thought of yet. If you can't respect it for its sheer stupendous awesomeness, respect it for that.

Again, I feel the need to ask the following question before answering.

Are we talking about the original films, the Clone Wars stuff, or the novels?

Believe me. There's a real simple way to answer this question once we've established what we're talking about.

He mentioned "crappy tie in TV shows" but also took a (poorly thought out) shot at Return of the Jedi. I think he means all of it.

Well, in that case, it's rather simple.

Movies? Good. (Except the Clone Wars one, but that's not really a movie anyway...)

Clone Wars? OK if you turn your brain off, stupid if you think about it, insulting if you're a fan of the Expanded Universe.

Novels? For the most part, good. Up till about five years ago, when Del Rey stopped making interesting and creative novels and started making really expensive toilet paper.

I believe it's a great Universe. My main grief about Star Wars is that they've got so many different storylines going at the same time, while all in different eras, etc. Still, like Transformers, I enjoy it, I love new content regardless of popular opinion.

That's pretty much my opinion of Episodes I-III. I know they're Lucas' toys, and he can play with them any way he wants, but the Prequels can't be reconciled with the EU, and I like how things happened in the EU better.

The Clone Wars (3d) series though? Better writing and way better acting than all three Prequels combined IMHO.

The EU works so much better because Lucas doesn't write it.

The guy may have been a legend in creating Star Wars, but he can't write for ****.

All hail Timothy Zahn!
