Leslie Nielsen passes away

As someone who grew up in the 80's, the Naked Gun movies and Airplane movies were among my favorites...and some of the best comedic acting ever made. The star of those movies was Leslie Nielsen, a Canadian-born actor whose deadpan delivery made him a huge succes. Mr. Nielsen passed away today at the age of 84 from complications of pneumonia. He will be missed, indeed. This is the place to remember your favorite Nielsen moments and to pay respects to a great actor and man.

Rest in peace, Leslie.

I was really shocked when I heard this on the radio, very sad news. Dracula: dead and loving it was one of my favourite films as a kid, I can't decide if it was because of Nielsen or the epic amount of corset cleavage though. :???:

This one actually caught me off guard. Leslie Nielsen was one of my all time favorite comedians. Maybe that was more from the genre that he represented than the actor himself, but his presentation was what carried those movies through. From the Naked gun down to SuperHero Movie, he excelled at the spoof genre and brought a seriousness and respect to the parodied material that modern spoofs seem to lack entirely.

As they say,Rest in peace.

Sad indeed. I love the Airplane movies as well as the Naked Gun movies, but my favorite with him was Spy Hard. Hilarious.

"...and don't call me Shirley!" -from Airplane

F**k I wasn't expecting this. For some odd reason it just seems unnatural that he's dead.

From what little I can remember from when I was a kid, Pneumonia is basically fluid on the lungs. My Grandad had it also before he passed away. At the risk of sounding morbid, the link below explains it much better than I ever could.

Hope that helps.

I am a nurse, so here's what you need to know.

Pneumonia is a bluid up of fluid in the lungs, caused by either bacterial infection, viral infection, or intrusion of foreign substance into the lungs (called aspiration pneumonia). The fluid can cause significant pain, but can also manifest in several other ways including shortness of breath, lower than normal pulse oximetry readings, and flu like symptoms. Onset can be sudden (usually the case with viral) or gradual (usually with bacterial). Fever depends on the type of infection. Outside of aspiration pneumonia, most forms are caused by exposure to viral or bacterial agents via what would be called normal everyday contact. It is contagious in most forms via droplet (sneezing or caoughing) or inhalation of contaminating substance. It is a serious illness as it can permanently decrease lung capacity if not treated. It can also cause pulmonary embolisms (clots in the lungs that block blood flow, leading to rupture). If you remember, Jim Henson died at age 42 due to pneumonia. THere is a vaccine available for viral pneumonia. Bacterial pneumonia is treated by antibiotics, either oral or IV, depending on severity.

Ah. That's how.
