WFC/graphics card help

I'm hoping someone here can help out with this.
My laptop has a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, and I recently updated the driver because I was having issues with the display driver crashing, only after I'd gotten my new LCD tv and hooked it up with an HDMI to the laptop.
Before that, I could play WFC just fine. But when I started having the troubles with the driver, I looked and noticed my driver was like 2 years out of date, so I downloaded the newest from Nvidia. That was about a week ago. But this morning, I started WFC, only to get a really nasty suprise. The new driver, dated 10/2010, has screwed the game up. It's running extremely slowly, including the cut scenes. I'm talking like 1fps or worse. Screen hardly moves, cursor lags hard, it's all messed up. Unplayable.
I checked all the settings and they were the same as before. So it's gotta be the new driver. I got into the Nvidia control panel and tinkered with it's settings, but nothing helped. Short of rolling back the driver to the previous version, I don't know what else to try.
Anyone else had a similar problem with WFC or anything else? Something is conflicting it, and the tv connection is disabled. So I'm not sure what it could be now.
