I've seen it primarily pronounced two ways: Home-aj(as in Taj Mahal) and Hom(as in Hominid)-idge. Which one is right? Are they both acceptable ways to pronounce it?

Oh-maj. Or Hoh-maj. Both pronunciations are acceptable.

Being a French word, the correct pronunciation would be Hom as in Oh My God and "ahj" as in Taj Mahal)

However for the English language I believe both ways are acceptable.

I always thought of it as AH-midge, with the "AH" being pronounced like the "ho" in "honour."

This is how I've always been taught to pronounce it.

Seems to me that this was fairly standard until about five or so years ago. I had never heard the other pronunciation until then. And when I did hear it, I was utterly confused as to what they were saying.

Normally I would go with the silent "H" and pronounce it 'ah-maj' but if it looks like I'm heading into a situation heavily patrolled by the Grammar Police, I cover my butt and simply 'pay tribute'. :P

I don't care how the government says it's pronounced, I pronounce it just like it's spelled. "home-age" But don't pronounce "age" like the word age. It's like I take the e off, so the a sounds not like the letter "A" it's confusing.

L-lol it depends on how pretentious I want to be. Full on? oh-MAJ (stress on the second syllable--most English words have stress on the first); but I have been known to HOM-ij it as well if I'm speaking more casually.

Both are technically correct, dependent on how Americanized you want to sound.

HK, no help at all.
