Hellboy: Blood and Iron

Came out on DVD today. For $19.99 not only did I get the Blood and Iron dvd, but it also came with an exclusive Hellboy animated figure.

The figure is awesome as hell, no pun intended. Came with a removable "Samaritan", a couple extra hands, and a stand. The only difference between the figure I have and the one on the gentle giant site, who graciously provided the picture below, is that mine has a different head, complete with a stogey.

The movie was awesome as well, it's been said before. The Hellboy animated movies put the Marvel stuff to shame.

I missed out on seeing it when it was on CN. How would you rate it with the Sword of Storms? (below, around same, or above)

Well, Sword of Storms was awesome, brought in a lot of japanese mythos and added in a little bit from the comics as well.

As for Blood & Iron, I'd say it was around the same, they brought in more mythology, the Greek goddess Hecate, werewolves, vampires, harpies. The whole shabang.

If you've read the Hellboy comics, you'd see similarities between some of the comic stories and the movie.

It really is worth seeing. Buying as well if you're a Hellboy fan.

the hellboy cartoons are a great way to hold us off for hellboy 2... i cant wait. i never picked up a hellboy comic untill i saw the first movie. didnt know much about it and it being a "lesser known title" didnt really care too at the time, but i do enjoy it now. and its one of the few comic book things my wife enjoys. she likes Abe the most lol.

I just finished watching Sword of Storms and loved it. I am going to pick up Blood and Iron the next time I am out. It is a shame there is not another currently on the way.

Yeah, but it would be kind of hard with Hellboy 2 starting shooting and everything.

Maybe after Hellboy 2 is finished, we may see some more Hellboy animated stuff.

That would be cool. I remember not wanting to see HellBoy when it came out because I thought it was a dumb SCiFi flick. Then when a friend convinced me to watch it I was kicking myself for not watching on the big screen.

I prefer Targets version of these animated movies. Nothing better than a nice chromed out slip sleeve...That and I have the Sideshow 12" figure from the movie.

I liked this one a lot. But I'm not sure I liked it better than Sword of Storms. Not as much action but a better story.

Oh also...There is a third one coming. They just haven't started on it yet...I'm guessing you guys didn't watch to the end of the credits....Yeah. Should do that. A rather "crabby" fellow will be the bad guy in the next one.

I think Sword of Storms is the better one of the two so far. I just wish that instead of going with this animation style that they would go with artwork based on Mike Mignola's style. It can be done, just look at The Amazing Screw-On Head.

Thats what the great thing about Hellboy is, each incarnation has a different take. The movie, the comics, the cartoon.

And yet they all kick ass.

However Sword of Storms is a bit better since it seems to be the most original work, Blood and Iron is an amalgam of several different comic stories slapped together.
