Kids' WB! Announces Spectacular Spider-Man

"The Spectacular Spider-Man" is the official title of the super hero's new animated series coming to the Kids' WB! on The CW, it was announced by Kids' WB! Senior Vice President and General Manager Betsy McGowen.

"The use of the 'Spectacular' title is a homage to Marvel's wildly popular series of Spider-Man comics, and is very reflective of the enthusiasm and high regard we have for the production," McGowen said. "This promises to be a stand-out animated series that will perfectly complement both Sony Entertainment's box office-shattering films and the amped-up action on Kids' WB! every Saturday."

Riding the crest of Sony's blockbuster Spider-Man 3, the new animated series -- slated to premiere on Kids' WB! in early 2008 -- picks up the world-renowned web-slinger's mythology at the beginning of his hero's journey as a not-so-typical 16-year-old with new-found powers engaging the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life while combating bigger, badder super-villains in the real world.

Greg Weisman ("Gargoyles," "The Batman") is supervising producer on "The Spectacular Spider-Man." Victor Cook ("Hellboy: Blood and Iron") is producer/supervising director. The series is produced by Culver Entertainment.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

This has possibilities, though. If the creators are trying to attract a young kids-show crowd, the ultimate version would be perfect. It'd be like X-men Evolution.

I really hope it's based on Ultimate Spider-Man. I freaking love that series. Hope they use the voice they used in the game as well. Fit really well. Can't be any worse than that MTV cellshaded one....Ugh.

Well, can't totally rag on the MTV spidey toon. Mainframe did it, guess they were trying something new, which is why it didn't turn out well.

It is times like this that I'm glad I don't have CW on my tv so I won't even accidentally see it while flipping channels.

Geez, how many times do the have to reboot these cartoon adaptations? He got bit by a freaking radioactive spider. WE GET IT. Move on, already...

Even if the animation is cartoonish, so long as the characters don't get big chibi heads or flashy backgrounds (spider-sense excluded), I'll be okay with it. I mean, it can't be worse than some of the other animated crap they have on Kids' WB.

when ever MTV gets an animated show its always gone after the first season except beavis and butthead, daria and a hand full of other shows from the early to mid 90's everything else no mater how good it is is fated to be canned, its a shame. there was talk a few yrs ao about a new spidey toon comeing to CN...maybe this will be it?

I will check this out, but, why do they have to apply this animation style to everything!? If it turns out like Ultimate Spiderman the game i guess that'll work, but damn, they should have gone with the animation styled after Ultimate Spiderman the comicbook. Would be a hell of alot better. I'm just getting tired of all comicbook shows all looking like that, it looks too cheap.

Well thats another show that won't be bringing me back to that timeslot on that channel. Doubt it could even compare to the 90s cartoon of Spiderman.

Looks like Ultimate Spider-Man with a Teen Titans-ish art style. Looks great, but I'm a bit baised because I used to be a huge Teen Titans fan.
