Wow! A Mecha forum! When did this get put in? Well anyway, I've been looking for the right forum to let you guys that remember me and those that don't what I've been doing since I left the staff here at Seibertron.com

As you know I helped Ryan out on the past with his awesome galleries section (in fact a few of my galleries still remain) and since leaving the site I've continued shooting galleries but of a broader range of subject matter than just Transformers. LG and Maximus_Prime (you might remember those guys too) of the www.thetaverntable.com have kindly given me the web space to post my galleries and I’ve been slowly adding to them ever since.

Hey Alex!
Nice to see you around again.
The Galleries are great! Especially that Gunbuster, looks awesome. I think I want a SOC Eva 01 now
Are you going to do a gallery of your custom alt-nightbeat? that would be cool.

That is a possibility, my BT customs are on the list of possible future galleries but right now I'm a whole lot more excited by Revoltech and plan to get a fair few more galleries of those up.

As for SOC Eva 1, if your referring to the SPEC version I have shot a gallery I'd think long and hard before you do. There are some SERIOUS construction/quality issues with his hip joints. I'd just finished shooting my gallery, I started to twist the hip joint to put him into the position I planned to display him in and it just came apart! No snap, the joint just denigrated! I was so angry! The figure has now been rendered totally unfixable and useless. I may by the forthcoming berserk version so I get another inner Eva body to hang both sets of armour off, but after that I wont be buying another SPEC Eva. IMO the original SOC Evas are far superior in design, I just wished they had the show accurate flat colour schemes like the SPEC does.

Wow that's terrible. Must have been very poor quality. No chance of getting a replacement from Bandai?
the SPEC version is the only one with the inner body, right? Most other eva-01 figures just have the removable 'mask'.
Real damn shame.

love to see those custom BTs get the gallery treatment. :D
Do you plan to do the whole revoltech line or just the Mecha?

I got it from an ebay seller so I cant see them negotiating m a replacement part. Next time I'll go through HLJ, the shipping takes longer but at least them I'm covered for any quality issues.

Yea the spec one is the only Eva toy with an inner 'naked Eva' that I've seen. The original SoC Evas had no removable armour other than the shoulder fins to swap between the knife/launcher carrying and slim line variants. I dont know of any eva toys with removable masks, although I'm sure there are some.

I plan on shooting galleries of the ones that I like and therefore buy. I have 15 Revoltechs so far, so I have a lot to be getting on with.

Heres a question thats been bugging me about the Revoltech Mazinkaiser figure.

Are the forearms removable? I'd like to see if I can reinact the "turbo smasher punch".

Yes they are. All Revoltech figures are modular, and pull apart at the joints, it helps the revolver joints do their job properly and makes for amazing articulation. I tried to take a photo of Mazinkaiser performing a 'Turbo Smasher Punch" but I couldn't get both the toy and the forearm in focus properly without having mt hand in the photo.

He is awesome. I posted this review of him not so long back:

I've only watched the first two episodes of Gunbuster 2 but it very clear from the moment he appears that Dix-Neuf is both an unusual and iconic robot, if that is indeed what he is because he appears much more like some giant cyborg superhero/villain in a cloak, and iron jaw, a bear chest and tats. He just looks badass!

Anyway on to the figure itself. Being a keen collector of Revoltech since the early Evas came out I've watched this line go from strength to strength improving with each release and this figure is no exception. I can quite honestly say this is one of the finest Revoltech figures yet, it again combines anime accuracy with awesome articulation. The flat simplistic colours and detailing are as close to what you'll see in the stylish anime of Diebuster as you likely to find on an action figure. In face with his cloak on there is almost no way of telling this is an articulated action figure and not a static PVC figurine. With many Revoltech figures you can spot the tell tale X's of the revolver joints at the tops of the hips, shoulders or waist, Dix-neuf exhibits very little of this. You really have to look hard for the joints and as with other recent figures in the line the joints are colour co-ordinated to blend in with the figure. The revoltech joints can be found in the elbows, shoulders, ankles, hips, chest, neck and connecting either half of his cloak to his back. The knees are not revolver joints or rather you can't get into then to see if they are or not. They are mono-shaft but ratcheted and go from straight to just over 90 degrees. This works perfectly seeing as Dix-neufs legs a huge tree-trunk-like things with no obvious knees other than the markings half way down his legs. The only thing I would say against his joint is that the shafts on his elbow joints are a tad short and tend to come off quite easily, no biggy but worth a mention.

On to the accessories, again Kaiyodo do not disappoint! As with many recent Revoltech releases the number and sheer quality of accessories is above that of earlier figures in the line. It now seems all figures come with a multi-directional revolver joint flying stand as standard, Dix-neuf also includes the older style foot prop extension that was used for flying poses before the newer revolver jointed stand, not 100% necessary but its nice to have both options. For actual figure accessories you have the obligatory close fists and open hands (complete with buster beam barrels) and an extra head one with his eye open one with it closed(this is quite significant in the Anime). Weaponary inclded his baseball bat/mace and hand held chainsaw things (sorry dont know the anime terminology for those yet). Both of these weapons ingeniously fit under his cloak , the handle of the mace has to be removed for this and to fit it into his clenched fists. Last but no least is an additoinal back for the figure so you can remove the cloak. Now I havent seen all of the series yet so I'm not aware of the significance but it does appear Dix-neuf has some sort of huge metallic skull on his back with transparent white blue horns of fire! I'm sure the meaning behind all the will become clear as I watch more but all I can say is it looks awesome, the detailing on this piece is superb and I was very pleased to find the flames were removable.

Overall I'd say this is one of if not the best Revoltech so far. It looks great, has awesome articulation, beautiful accessories/detailing and there is something about the weighty solidity of his legs that really appeal to me. With this figure you get a whole lot of Revoltech for your money, the whole package is fantastically well done and I really don't have a single gripe, which is more than I can say for one or two other revoltechs that I have found slightly lacking here or there. If you enjoy the anime, like the design, love Revoltech, or just fancy something a bit different I'd say you can't go far wrong with this guy.

Next for the gallery treatment will be these guys:

As you may already know I had a bit of a disaster with the original Soul of Chogokin SPEC Eva 01, his hip disintegrated. Try as I might I couldn't fix it or get a cheap replacement so I decided to chance purchasing the limited edition 400% Synchro rate version as I could use the inner body to hang all the armour parts from. Aside from the construction issues I really liked the original and this is just the same only with the crazy berserk bits and a better neck. Sadly he doesn't come with any weapons but i guess that is because he was always meant to compliment the original release.

So anyway here's a gallery which if your interested you can compare with the original figure. I wouldn't recommend getting either due to the construction issue with the hip, this one's hips have so far held up although it doesn't appear that it is designed any differently to the original and I haven't put this one though nearly as much manhandling as the original. However at least I now have a fully working figure with lots of accessories and extra parts to play around with.

Love the galleries Alex, they helped me decide to start collecting Revoltechs.

I plan on getting both Eva-02 (Movie Edition) and the Mass Production Eva to go along with my Eva-01 (Movie Edition). Only have money for one right now. Since you have these which would you recommend getting now?

Well both have their upsides, the Mass Production Eva looks great and has the wings, but doesn't come with any weaponry (you need to get Unit 02 and or the wingless weapons version for that). Unit 02 on the other hand has more accessories, including a lance for your Mass Production Eva to carry should you get one but it doesn't have the wings (of course). It's a tough call, but id probably go for Unit 02 first purely because hes not missing anything without the other figure.

Interesting you should say that, Ive been working on a couple of galleries I originally shot for this place, in fact they were up here for quite sometime until Ryan took them down if favor of his own pics.

Revoltech Convoy
Revoltech Ultra Magnus

I've tweaked them a lot since the first time the went up and I think they look a hell of a lot better for it, so if you have five minutes please check them out.
