DW / IDW Continuity?

Not having read Dreamwave's cancelled ongoing series or Infiltration, I have a question.

Does IDW's series take place in the same universe as Dreamwave's G1 or War Within series? I didn't think so but seeing War Within designs in one of the Spotlight books threw me off.

:BOT: The Dreamwave and IDW comics are in different continuities.

But I think since Don Figueroa is now drawing IDW Transformers books, he's pulling out his own designs because he can :) :CON:

Were IDW not allowed to have the same continuity as DW?

From what I know, since Dreamwave went out of business, and IDW picked up the license, they could do whatever they wanted, but IDW took a different approach. In the TPB of Infiltration, Furman talk s of how he's never started a transformers stroy from the start, always picking up from someone else. So, he was given the opportunity to do a re-start, and took it, emphasizing on 'robots-in-diguise' element.
But, IDW is re-printing Dreamwave's previous TPB of Generation One, and there are rumors that they may finish the War Within

Actually, IDW has gone on record that they could not continue where DW left off because of the bankrupcy litigation going on with Dreamwave. IDW has only just recently been able to reprint the exisitng DW material, but it will be a while before they can finish the various stories that were left hanging when Dreamwave went belly-up, not only the War Within stories, but also the main-line story arc which was cut off with issue 10.

I found this out directly from them because I wrote to them and asked if they had any plans to continue where DW left off. Their responce was that they couldn't at the time because of the bankrupcy litigation.
