So now that i'm done bitching about those horrible TF movie designs I want to talk about mechs that do Not look like sh!t glued together with poo and metal.

Right. Battlemechs from the battletech universe.

I want to see some battletech discussion here lads. Be it the games, table top game or just talking about the fluff.
I recently started reading a bit of battletech history and dang, I did not knew battletech had This much written history. It's pretty damn insane and I love it.

I played Mech2 mercs long time ago so I didn't caught much of the story those days. I only recall that I kinda stopped playing the game the moment the clans came and wtfpwned me. I played MW4+Black knight (they totally ruined whatever story MW4 had in black knight though...) for a long time and loved it as well.

So tell me, why Jade Falcon?

I remember like 15 years or so ago reading in Nintendo Power about this arcade version of Battletech that was a life sized mech cockpit. It was really cool and one of this first virtual reality games but I'm not sure if it is still around.

Yeah, good Inner Sphere mechs were few and far between.

I have to say I prefer Clan Wolf to the Jade Falcons. It's all about the Wolf Spiders!

 *Hands spoon a can of Off!*

Spiders scare me too, but that unit was always so badass! I miss Natasha Kerensky.

I played in one of those before at Dave & Busters in Chicago like 8 years ago. I think they may still have it there, I'll have to check.

Too bad the cancled Battletech the show after it's first season. I liked that show a lot when I was a kid. Summner gets home to his planet and then the **** hits the fan...but we never get to find out (unleess they did books..I know there are Mechwarrior books. I even had the toys for battletech...good ol' Axe Man and the Bushwacker to name a few.

Though to the game and all of that...my 2 fav design swould be the Muarder (rip off of ther macross Command Suit) and the Mad Dog (Vulture).

There were indeed a great many Battletech books. Some were really good. Some...were not. However, the characters from the cartoon are not in any of the novels. They were created solely for the show, and so sadly there is no conclusion to their tale I know of.

here is a website with links to the episodes on youtube. I am trying to find the website that actually lets you DL them. I downloaded them about a year and a half ago. man I miss that show.

I also forgot to mention I collected the Technical Readout Manuals for Battletech. I had like 5 of the big books, one of them was about Dropships, Jumpships and Fighters. I have to find those books... :-?

That's one thing I never quite got. In the tabletop game, Inner Sphere tech is absolutely always worse than Clan tech.

I'm a huge fan of the Madcat design, myself, and I played B.tech in college quite a bit. Haven't played in years, though. Too bad my pewter mechs are so small in scale to transformers, I'd pose them together. :D

MW4 is nowhere near the mech sim that MW2 was, but MW3 was my favorite. I also really enjoyed MechAssault on the Xbox.

Anybody else enjoy the MechCommander games? You can play them free and download them now at http://www.mechcommander.org

I'm a really big fan of the Battletech universe. I'm primarily a Clan Wolf player (I'm one of the few Wardens among Vlad's Wolves).

My favorite books are the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy (that's the first introduction of the Clans for all you n00bs out there).

My opinion on the video games is pretty divided, so here's my breakdown:

MW1: Only played it once, can't comment on it.

MW2: I own the entire series in both original and Titanium format. This is by far my favorite series.

MW3: Great stuff, the graphics are definately a step up from MW2. Too bad that we couldn't really mod the game.

MW4: I honestly think that this series is sub par. They did away with the tabletop/MW2/MW3 mechlab, they redesigned a number of the classic designs and the story doesn't really seem to fit with the canon background. Also the graphics only seem a little more advanced then MW3, although MW3 had destructable terrain and all.

MC1: Pretty fun game, they could have greatly expanded on it but didn't.

MC2: Great news, this game and its sourcecode can be legally downloaded.

Mechassault series: Seriously, is this even Battletech?

Anywho, enough with my ranting.

There were indeed a great many Battletech books. Some were really good. Some...were not. However, the characters from the cartoon are not in any of the novels. They were created solely for the show, and so sadly there is no conclusion to their tale I know of.

Adam Steiner appears in the novel "Operation Audacity" and is mentioned in "TRO 3050 Upgrade". The TRO entry is pretty fun, it describes that he has a poorly reviewed holovid series (which is supposedly the Battletech cartoon).

And for some fun, here's the famous Canonical List of Errors:

http://www.schwag.org/~rocky/btech/BTAS/Errors.html

Have fun reading it, it completely cracked me up

No, but as an arcade shooter, it's great.

Well, it's not my thing either way, I was probably expecting too much from it :-?

Anywho, there's also a fanmade (freeware) game of the tabletop, it's called Megamek. It features pretty much all canon mechs and supports multiplayer.

I have been a bt/mw fan for years and I have read all history, mech data, and star charts. I have even worked with designers on MWO on the maps which two of mine are featured. Ask any question you like. Mech well atlas 3 is my favorite something about a skull for head just screams fear in your enemies. Second has to be the daishi or dire wolf. Passes the atlas in power and speed but the clans do not use melee weapons so the atlas for me takes the cake. But the raven war hammer hunchback helstar grizzly and ax man are my favorites.
