Ok so the title for the thread isnt the most catchy, but I think the idea is sound. the idea is simply to share quality music (NOT FILESHARING-just the knowledge that they exist).

I personally love to hear new interesting and different bands and i thought maybe some of u might like to hear there bands too and maybe u can share any gems u find too! So here we go!

From Dublin we have,

-The Mighty Stef
and
-Fight Like Apes

For the Psychos and Rockabllys,

-Zombie Ghost Train

-Necromantix
and
-Horrorpops

For something mellow and different,

-The Dresden Dolls
and
-Rasputina

and just because they are mates go find a band called My First Airport and their song "Dont get smart with me missy"
Its on limewire and the band encourage downloads so knock yourself out![/b]

i think Ive heard one Horrorpop song... maybe,...

Anyway, for those of a modern scandinavian Prog direction:

Opeth, f**king awesom Prog metal band. Main focus of the band is the singer, who is probably the only origanal member, and does ALL the singing (dispite the distinctly different styles of vocals some songs use).
If you want metal that goes from 'im gonna f**king rip your face off' anger and growling to 'im a pretty litle angel' melodic and downright claming rock, all in the same 10 minute song, then this is your band!

Ayreon, random as hell prog rock band which has only one costant, the guy who writes and does (some) of the singing. Has had many ande verious other singers, including opeth's genious singer and that guy out of Iron Maiden.
If you like updated 70s style synth n guitar prog rock n metal, with very well writen concept albums, then this is your band.

Im not sure why I love scandinaivian prog so much, but I do, so damnwell listen to it!

Ladytron - The best band I ever stumbled across. Shoegaze elctronica, or so they say. It's like Roxy Music with on chicks, all on acid.

Matisyahu - A blend of hip-hop and reggae, mostly themed around his Hasidic beliefs. Amazing to listen to, amazing to consider.

Jethro Tull - It pains me to admit it, but a lot of people don't know these guys. They pretty much invented folk rock, and although they're not heavy metal at all, without them there'd be no Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden. Flutes, mandolins and electric guitars, all in a song about horse-drawn ploughs? GO LISTEN!

Heart - No, I know everyone knows 80s Heart. And I like 80s Heart, I really do. But 70s Heart were even better. A little like Jethro Tull meets Led Zeppelin, with chicks. Hot chicks.

Spandau Ballet - Shame on you if you don't know them, because you should. 80s new romantic group, amazing.

Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' kicks ass.

for me, I've grown fond of Black Stone Cherry, their song 'Rain Wizard' rocks.

other than that, the band Rhapsody. If you haven't heard their stuff before, I suggest looking for their song 'Black Dragon.' Also sorts of ass kickery.

They split? Poo.

The first three albums were amazing. I abso-bloody-lutly love the first three albums. The last two... yeah, not so good.

Moneen - Indie group from Brampton, Ontario, probably my favorite band ever, they put on a fantastic live show, their energy is off the wall. Recommended songs: Closing My Eyes Won't Help Me Leave, Are We Really Happy With Who We Are Right Now?, Don't Ever Tell Locke What He Can't Do

Protest the Hero - Don't even know how to classify it, they have their own unique sound, but it's somewhere in between metalcore, mathcore, and hardcore. Hailing from Whitby, Ontario, I can't recommend these guys enough. Their second and latest album, Kezia, is a concept album is a story, told from 3 different perspectives throughout the album. The skill level here is through the roof, I heard somewhere that for this album, they purposely wrote stuff they didn't know how to play, then made themselves learn it. Recommended listening: Blindfolds Aside, Heretics and Killers, She Who Mars the Skin of Gods

All That Remains - Don't know how many people know about this metalcore band, no one I know has heard of them, but most people I know don't listen to my kind of music. They've got a fantastic sound, and have a perfect blend of screaming/clean vocals. The song Six in Guitar Hero II is by them. Recommended listening: This Calling, Not Alone, Six, This Darkened Heart, Focus Shall Not Fail

One more: Meshuggah-- if you like unique music, this is it-- they've created their own shenre called 'calculus metal' by many due to just the insane use of mathmatic tempo-- as well, they switch the use of guitar, base, and drums, and have the drums doing 2 separate, usually 32 and 16-count beats at the same time.

Their video for Rational Gaze:

...and New Millennium Cyanide Christ... shot in their trailer:

Seconded. 'Coin-Operated Boy' is a classic, and there's a couple of others I love too and can't think of the titles... :?

Jesus Prime wrote:Spandau Ballet - Shame on you if you don't know them, because you should. 80s new romantic group, amazing.

True story. Now Tony Hadley's gone 'solo' with his big band. I saw him a few months ago when the new Nottingham Market Square opened, and he was awesome.

Lacuna Coil aren't exactly unknown, but I'm surprised at how few people haven't heard of them, so I think they deserve a mention. They kick a ton of arse, they're really nice, and Cristina's one of the most beautiful women alive. Trust me.

And I'm also loving Slaves To Gravity. I was gutted when the Ga*Ga*s split up, so now they're (mostly) back, I'm well chuffed.

They aint bad, Ive got most of their back catologue on my pc, but cuase i downloaded it around the same time I downloaded Opeth, the poor bastards still havnt gotten a proper listen...

and to who ever mentione it, INDIE!?!

Like we need more of that piss poor generic **** right now. Unless you mean 1990s style indie, then all is forgiven. :P

EDIT:

Hmm, I like em. Not sure they're quite the kalibure of Rammstein mind. The two songs you showed tend to err on the side of mindless (if rather good) dance metal of the sort Linkin Park would wet their pants to be able to make.

Tony Hadley's recent album disappointed me.

Also, I don't know if anyone here is much of a Mike Patton fan, but anyone into alternative rock should check out Tomahawk. Especially the self titled album.

No, I've never heard you mention them. You are therefore the third. The first was a mate at uni.
