It doesn't? I must be living on a different planet then cos unless its covered in rust and thick layers of crap every metal i have ever seen (and ive been around a lot) it usually has some sort of shine to it. Maybe not a mirror shine but at very least a slight gleam.

The matte finish really makes this look professional. I know you don't even read certain threads, so keep it up. You get better, and it seems, they get more jealous.

I am switching to matte finish, gives it much more of a 'collector's' look

Jealous? Listen buddy i know what you are implying and who to, and trust me you couldn't be further from the truth.

Oh Geez Sonray, I like you so don't take this as an attack, but stop taking everything so personally. Besides, even if you do take offense to his comments you've no need to reply & justify yourself. You know you're not jealous, I know you're not jealous, Jin probably knows, along with a lot of other people; you're a great kitbasher! But no matter what you say you can't justify yourself to someone who appears to have such a high rivalry with you! That would be like Megatron telling Prime "Seriously, I promise I'll look after the universe!" He just won't listen.

Now stop continuing these stupid arguments that ruin these threads. I hate it! I see you two arguing EVERYWHERE!
Its... Boring...
I know you don't always start them but if you continue to reply when F_R makes his usual "your jealous, teeheehee" comment, then you're just as bad.

Frenzy, if you use my comments as an opportunity to attack Sonray... Just don't get me started on your behaviour, I have a lot I can say.

You are 100% right, i totally agree with you and i am working on changing things.
I am just the type of guy who cant back down from a fight or walk away from someone who is giving me ****. I wont let people walk over me, and if they even so much as try it they get beaten to a pulp.
This doesn't work very well online as theres no "hands on" approach which makes things worse for me, so its hard not to take things so defensively when for your whole life you have had to be defensive against bullies and all other sorts of scummy human beings.
Its ESPECIALLY hard when you know someone like FR is constantly stalking every comment you make to purposefully flame you as well.

But no offense taken at all, like i said i agree with you. Unlike some, i can admit to my faults and wrong-doings.

I love your usual style and of course your use of "rare earth magnets", but it is always nice to see an artist deviate from the norm, so as always great work!

I still can't help but wonder though why you don't break down the doors of Has/Tak and take over?

I'd be happy to be one of your gunners during the coup

Words can not express how much I believe with sticking to your usual style. The last few Classics repaints I've worked on have taken so long to finish. I have a hard time finding the motivation to work on them for more than a few minutes at a time.

To Sonray: It's good that you can hear me out & understand what I'm saying. I'm glad to hear you are trying to change, and I understand your behavior a lot more now I've had a glimpse into your reasoning, however in my eyes you real life actions does not excuse your online behavior. Being a media and Psychology student I tend to look into the difference between real life & virtual life, and one of the great benefits of virtual life is that you don't respond immediately like you do in conversation, you can mediate your actions, think about what to say & go back & edit if you want. It's alot easier to ignore a message board comment than a bully, you just don't click "reply". I've done this many time, but I also know how difficult it is to sometimes. Now you've shown remorse & a want to change so I'm not going to take this any further for now, but if your arguments with FR continue to get heated as often as they have been I will take action & make a request to Ryan personally. I know I don't have much power here but I know a lot of people on the boards who would be willing to agree that your arguments with FR are disturbing certain threads. Luckily I think FR is planning on visiting the board less frequently so it should be easier to ignore his antagonism.

I don't want you to think I'm going to be monitoring your conversations with FR or anything, all I meant was if you two get me pissed off to a point like I was today. Thank you so much for being a pleasant guy & not shouting me down or anything, but I hope you see how much your arguments annoy me & others, and when you two are separated you both seem to be nice guys (as I have had more dealings with you, you especially).
I really hope you are able to ignore such antagonism in the future as you are a good friend of mine on these boards & it would be a shame to loose you here.

Oh, and I agree with Burn, not all metals shine, Mercury doesn't (as far as I know). Here's a wiki quote for you:
wikipedia wrote:Traditionally, metals have certain characteristic physical properties: they are usually shiny (they have metallic luster), have a high density, are ductile and malleable, usually have a high melting point, are usually hard, are usually a solid at room temperature and conduct electricity, heat and sound well. I know Wikipedia isn't all that reliable but this seems to include "usually" for a reason. Remember, there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule.... except for the rule that there are always exceptions to the rule... hell I'm not gunna get started on that paradox, I'm too tired!

Beleive me mate, the stupid constant argueing pisses me off a lot too so im as desperate for it to end as much as you and others are, and theres a simple solution to the problem and that is cut off the source of the problem. I thinkl you know what i mean by the source, just incase you dont: http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic. ... id=#499166

As you can see, im not the only one he is picking fights with now.

But anyway, this isnt the thread for that discussion so lets not hijack it.

About the metal thing though...I know that not ALL metals shine, but not ALL metals dont shine either. And, how many bots in the movie did you see that didnt have a shine to them? Same even goes for G1, the artwork was crude yes but they tried to draw in shine to make them appear to be made from metal.

Just to clarify i am not 100% against TF toys not being shiny, i just think its wrong to say that all tf's should have a matte finish to them since the very fictional things these toys are based on were designed to have a shine to them originally. Also, saying such a thing, in my eyes, seems to undermine(is that the word i should use for this?) other artists who like to give their toys both a shiny and matte finish.

Bonecrusher....

He didn't have much of a shine to him. My "rough&muddy-look" custom of him looked way more movie accurate than the shiny Hasbro version. :P

I for one join you in the "lets let this discussion die & let the mindless Jin approval carry on" frame of mind.

(That said I have nothing against Jins work, but I do feel people see his name & instantly reply with "wow" before looking at the work properly. Though I have loved all of his customs I've seen, it has been because they all appeal to me, not just because of the name.)

BC, and Blackout but his bot mode parts had a sheen to them. :P Same for screamer.

I dunno...i just (this is just my own PERSONAL preference) think a metal robot should have some sheen to him.

It also seems silly to be discussing whether metal shines or not, but here's my two cents: let's not forget that metals can be painted, and in the case of robots that turn into cars, usually are painted (unless they're transforming into a DeLorean... anyways). So, really, everybody wins. A car's (or anything else's) paintjob can be shiny, or matte. It's all personal preference (unless we're talking about military machines--in which case I think the paint preference is to not be shiny so that positions aren't given away by gleams).

To Justicity: let's give Jin credit where it's due. I, for one, am usually awestruck by his creations, and if I say "wow" without looking at the work "properly", it's because I'm blown away by how the custom differs from what I thought it would be from reading the thread title, not because I'm mindless. Frankly, Jin's work is so consistent that most people are safe to say "wow" from a first glance. Again, let's give credit to where it's due. These threads are meant to support the kitbashing community, not to (no pun intended) bash it. That said, it actually seems like we're in agreement.

Jin, great idea for a custom, as always. It's a shame that the execution wasn't in the usual Jin style, but it did make for an interesting experiment. The quality of the paintjob, even in another style, is still phenomenal.

Like I said previously, i'm tired of having to explain why I like my kitbashes to have a matte finish. That's just my personal preference. Yet some people (and no, i'm not directing this at you Sonray so get down off your soapbox) simply cannot accept one person's preference if it's different from theirs.

And the way I see it, if they're in the middle of a war zone just when are they going to have time to polish themselves?

Well, it seems they can, according to Micheal Bay.

ahhh but that's the movie. There's a butt load of other TF mythology out there, why should we only apply mythology from the current line to our kitbashes?

And given that kitbashing is about being creative, why can't we simply believe that they get dirty and grungy looking?

Why, as kitbashes, must we appeal to the public masses when creating our OWN creations?

Dunno about anyone else but I kitbash for myself, as long as I like it that's what's important.

Which is a shame this one left you with a bad taste in your mouth Jin, because it really is a good piece of work. But it was a learning experience for you, so it's not a complete failure.
