Hello there,
Willing to help a friend out.I've have been modding/customization for a while now (side hobby). If your looking for "how to" there is a Tips section here (the forums)on how to paint, mod, ect.Youtube is a help, try looking up model kit ,gundam, plains, and custom toys for a guide.

If your looking for a figure to start.....There's a whole lot of Bumble Bee's out there.I would recommend starting with a deluxe.Voyagers and Leaders take a lot of time and money (is its summer so that would be a plus).Spare parts help (from old unused transformers,to gundam parts, ect) to differentiate from the origin mold. And my last tip........Masking tape.

Most important question to ask oneself prior to starting: What do I feel like doing?
It can be as simple as sticking wings and cannons onto Bumblebee and be done, or as complex as completely scratchbuilding Unicron out of styrene. What you need is an idea to do something, which is frankly quite tough to advice on ;)

But just to get a quickstart on things, perhaps you can try making simple mods to old unwanted figures you already own; parts swap with other unwanted figues, stick a couple of gundam weapons, repaint with color of choice. The only limit is your imagination, so go wild! :PEACE:

My one recommendation is to find an old junker (garage sales or e-bay) and start on it. Don't spend money on a new figure until you're feeling more confident.

I'm certainly no expert in customizing TF's (I mostly build model kits), but from what I've seen, customizing a TF can be anything from simply repainting a toy and putting a new head on it, to "Frankensteining" different bots to make an original one (aka kitbashing), to building one from scratch either by using styrene or 3d printing.

Repainting and head-swapping might be a good place to start, IMO. Something like repainting TFP Arcee in her G1 colors and replacing the head with a 3D printed G1 head.

It all depends on how ambitious you feel.

It depends on what you want from your customs, is it just sprucing up some of the disapointing paint apps on certain figures, or are you looking at filling the gaps Has/Tak have left with poorly conceved figures.

TFW2005 have some good tutorials for paint materials, pin removal, scrathbuilding etc.

And you could get some inspiration here, these range from minor mods to full scratch builds

And for anything else.
