(Yes, I know, another) IDW Style Whirl

I would like to start this post by acknowledging the people who influenced me most in the making of this custom:

Firstly, it was Jin Saotome who gave me the idea to use the HFTD Tomahawk figure as a base; you can see his interpretation of this character here.

And secondly, it was our very own Blurrz who inspired me to take this project off the shelf with his own custom, and without whom I may not have found the next influence;

And last but most certainly not least, TFW2005 user Javaco, who designed this.

And so with further adieux, I give you...Whirl.

In person, the paint color I chose - actually, I had to mix it myself - looks pretty white until you put next to something that's actually white.

Vehicle mode. I tell you, as will probably anyone else who had to take this b***h apart...this thing was a b***h to take apart.

I gave him Orion Pax's gun because it looks good on him.

You may be asking yourself: "why did Nemesis Maximo put a giant gun on top of a helicopter, compromising the aerodynamics of the airframe?"
I'll tell you: because F*** you, that's why! Lolololololol

So there it is! Enjoy the pics, let me know what you think.

Nice job mate, I actually really like the Orion gun on him, it's probably the closest thing Hasbro has released to Whirl's Shoomer.

Thanks, all! Kyle, I knew Whirl's gun had some kind of name, I just couldn't remember what it was!

And Blurrz, have you had any trouble with loose ball joints?

Yeah.. I ordered... WSF Polished and about a handful of joints were really lose. Had to do the super glue trick in order to make some of those ball joints bigger.

Right on. I got the WSF UN polished, as I didn't want any small parts getting lost or damaged during shipping. I also didn't do any sanding; I wasn't sure if I should have, but I also didn't want to mess up any details. I'll probably end up doing the super glue thing - his head is especially hard to pose.

That looks great! I love that light blue, what did you paint use? All of these great Whirl customs are making Javaco's kit very tempting!

I used a combination of Testors and Model Masters Acrylics. The main paint is actually a mix I made myself; the hobby shop didn't have any sky blue-ish colors, so I took white matte and stirred in a couple drops of straight up blue. At first he looked too white, but once it cured "blued" up a bit. It almost seems like something NASA might make.
