Armada Starscream, G1 Colors
Posted: Mon Oct 27, 2014 10:24 pmThe Generations Deluxe Armada Starscream is a figure with which I have a love/hate relationship. On one hand, I love the construction of the toy, and I think it's a great update to all the single ladies' favorite 'con. But on the other hand, he's got that terrible tomato red color all over him. Not to mention all the yellow. Have I ever expressed how much I dislike the color yellow? It's a lot.
So I decided to change that. However, I faced a dilemma; should I paint him to better resemble his archetype? Maybe I should attempt to make a new character. Or perhaps I could give him Mindmaster's colors, just for shiggles. Since I didn't feel like sculpting a new head, our resident ECT Co. Rep was off the table (sorry, buddy!) Also, I've been wanting a "classics" inspired Starscream for my Decepticon shelf, so I decided upon a G1 color scheme.
Ladies and Gentelman, and Shadowman, for your viewing pleasure, Starscream.

- His body is painted mostly a flat light grey. I wanted something that was borderline white, and I'm happy with the result. The red and blue are gloss, as I wanted the contrast to make the colors POP.

- You can see a couple of spots where I haven't finished covering the original color; I will, but I was very eager to share this with you.

- Before, I always felt his face looked like he had a double chin. So I painted his "goatie" and "beard", and along with painting over the light-piping, his entire head now seems better proportioned. I made his eyes red, but it's difficult to see with my phone camera. It's there under natural light, though.

- Vehical mode. I'm Very pleased with how the layout ended up, with the boosters/launchers flowing into the wings.
