RID15 Strongarm Deserves Better

Warrior Class Strongarm was the first Robots In Diguise 2015 toy I picked up. I really wasn't interested in these toys at first, but when I saw her on the pegs, I liked what I was looking at. I now have all the Warrior Class figures. She's still my #1 gal though. After watching a few episodes of the show, I really like the potential in her character. I also like my fembots like I like my fems, with a lil sumphin' ta squeeze on. :x

A lot of folks might say these toys are junk. They're not far from right. They are certainly "toys", and a few have some issues. But they're fun to play with. Quick and easy transformations, and some pretty decent articulation. I really dig the character design too.

The biggest flaw, IMO is their lack of good paint apps. Strongarm suffers the worst. This big fine mama deserves better, so I went ahead and I gave it to her.

After 19 years of collecting, this is my first attempt at custom painting a TF toy. I used to do alright painting my Gundam SDs, and with a blank slate like Strongarm, I thought I would give it a go.

I feel it's impotant to know where we are coming from so I included these first pics as reference. On the left of each image is the Hasbro version. On the right, Takara's. Of course, as usual, Takara's paint apps look a ton better than the other.

I guess this would be more considered a custom touch up as opposed to a paint job. I really just tried to embellish what was there. I took a little from Takara, a bit from the show's character model, and used my own license as well.

Kudos she looks great, those accents really add some life to that figure! I have been contemplating doing something like this to my jet/skyfire and metroplex...mainly because there is sooo much detail which is all white.

What kind of paint did you use?

Fixed is right! That's a damn fine job you did ;)^

The white around the face is better than Takaras, and all the extra details (shins, hands, chest, HUBCAPS[cant stand when those go overlooked]) are really amazing!

Thanks guys!
I know it's not much compared to the amazingness going on in here, but you gotta start somewhere, right?

donny - I just used testers and a brush. I also used some blue painters tape to do some masking. I'm gonna dig through the resource thread and see if I can learn some more. I saw someone talking about using acrylics, but from my experience, it just doesn't stick to plastic. I'm finding some of the enamel doesn't either. I like doing this, but I still wanna be able to play with the toys.

It's funny you brought up Jetfire I was thinking he might be my next target. There are a few places he desperately needs more red.
