G2 Customs

I've been on a G2 kick lately and decided to take some of my old loose/worn out figures and repaint them. The colors are based on the Galvatron watch offered back in '93. The stickers are based on graphics that just had that 90's vibe.

Continuing my G2 kick I went with my favorite 'bot Hot Rod. The colors are based on the G2 comic with some artistic licensing. The purple is a dark plumb with a fluorescent orange. Unfortunately my printer is down and out so the stickers will have to wait.

This is my take on a G2 Skids. The blue is Krylon Oxford Blue which reminds me of my favorite 90's Saturn sedan popular at the time and the orange is a fluorescent. Stickers will have to wait until my printer is up and running.

This is a very cool color scheme and indeed fits with G2. I do want to point out though that the plum in the G2 comics is more a colorist's interpretation of the toys' burgundy - it was sometimes inked that way in the G1 comics too. It wasn't an intentionally-created G2 scheme.. but it sure as heck works as one.

Thanks! I noticed the variations with the burgundy too and wasn't sure which way to go. In the end I went with plumb and fluorescent orange because it was the most "90's extreme" color palette of the two. Burgundy still seemed too G1.

Well, not everyone got an Xtreme Colorz makeover.
Jazz only got new stickers, Optimus' main body stayed the same colors, and Inferno didn't change color at all.

True, but for me was seeing the radical color changes made to the Dinobots, Combaticons,Constructicons,Sideswipe,Ramjet and the metallic mini cars was what made G2 so fun. It's that vibe I try to capture when imagining repaints from that era.

Heh, I love them too. Just look at my avatar. I have his teammates too, all proudly combined into G2 Superion.
Anyway, this is a nice job and I look forward to the sticker updates

That's cool! The G2 Aerialbots were hard to find so I never bothered to pick any up. Do you have any Gold Plastic Syndrome issues? I've heard so many horror stories about it that I've avoided any gold colored G2 figures.

My take on a G2 Sunstreaker using an old beat up G1 figure I had lying around. Stickers to follow.

Nice job! Also, lucky you for having a spare G1 Sunstreaker.

Yet another G2 repaint this time it's my old beat up Wheeljack figure. Though I've never been a big fan of the character Wheeljack's design is hands down one of my favorites...so alien looking. I decided to play off this and give him a UFO kinda look so no retina piercing neon colors. Instead I opted for "dark G2 Sideswipe" approach. The silver glitter decals is washi tape from my wife's art journaling stash. I know it's definitely not going to be for everyone but I thought it was more interesting-90's extreme-UFO like than just painting it silver. More stickers to follow.

Thanks! My friend gave me some of his old beat up Transformers back in '91. None of us had a clue how collectible they'd end up being, they were just old toys.

That is awesome-looking, I love it. I think green might have been more UFO-y than red, but the red is pretty dang cool.

Thanks again! I'm saving the eerie green color for the stickers, maybe an X-Files kinda vibe.

Nice. Weren't you tempted to use the packaging at as a basis, especially the Canon?

Nice paintwork, but it doesn't really seem G2 to me. It just looks like a red version of Sunstreaker (either Diaclone or G1 Sodeswipe).
Here are some possible ideas that could help you with another attempt, if you were so inclined? I've included Sideswipe in the list, too, as it was unreleased:

Nice work, using an artistic error in the comics to make a new colour scheme. If it worked for Sunstorm, then anything goes!

Thanks for the suggestions! It's actually fluorescent orange but it's a bit hard to photograph. The stickers I have planned should help tie in to the G2 aesthetic.

Lol...no temptation! The neon orange on the actual toy was too good to pass up. I did wrestle with the yellow eyes though.

Nice! Neon orange sounds great! I was actually thinking of adding custom decals to an MP Tigertrack to add "tiger racing", faux-80's style tiger regards imagery to it. One idea was to repaint Tigertrack orange, or add orange to the mix looking forward to the decals. Are they going to be crazy zany hotwheels style ones?
