Mod Tips for First Timer

Hey guys,

so I picked up a Beast Hunter Ultimate Optimus Prime that came without his missiles, sword, shield, shoulder pads, electronics, handle, and his dragon mechanism on the pack won't rotate via the gimmick anymore without me physically moving it, and that was after repairs were attempted.

But I've decided that I want to try to customize him. He got lots of holes in alt mode and lots of possibilities to be turned into many different things or characters.

So I would like to request some tips on modding. First and foremost, any particular types of plastic recommended or other materials to add on? Secondly, how would I attach those new pieces? and thirdly, best types of paint to use?

Thanks!

The custom itself was finally started, it has new alt mode panels that form movie Blackout style features on the back, and the shoulders and the head have been worked on. The chest, forearms, and lower legs are next, then weapons. I plan to add detailing with the plastic leftover, and I'm still not quite sure the head is done yet
