Has anyone tried slapchop painting for customs?

I only recently learned about slapchop* miniatures painting, and I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it on custom Transformers? I'm curious if it works on a larger scale or with the look of Transformers toys in general.

* the gist of it is to use black primer and gray/white drybrushing to build up contrast then layering thin paints on top, so you get color as well as built in highlighting.

I wouldn't have thought it would work very well with the large flat areas and block colours of TF toys generally; it works best for organic and/or highly-textured minis as a rule. But it'd be interesting to see the results if anyone has given it a go.

Maybe with super-surface-detailed toys like Movie molds?
