Ok these are my first attempt, and they are fresh out the mold so still rough, but as far as a trial casting goes I am pretty happy with em. These are the fixed thumb model but the fingers still have teh same range of motion. I was going to install a ball joint for the wrist but didnt get to it in time. next time I'll go for that) The pics arent that great, cant' seem to get my camera to focus on white. but what do you think?

I am also working on a movable thumb version. I cast this prime's hands because I did not have any others available that had better articulation.
If anyone has a spare set of hands of other types that are castable please contact me and we can see if we can work something out.
Once I work out the bugs these will be available if anyone is interested.

Whoa, awesome, pity about the ball joint, though they aren't too expensive to make, are they?

well now that I know how fast I have to move to get the ball joints in (like lightning this schtuff sets up fast) the next ones I make will have wrists. I need to get some new measuring cups. anybody know where to get large amounts of disposable dosae cups. Like the kind that measure half ounces.

How were they cast? and where is the articulation? at both knuckles? or just the first?

They look like RiD Magnuses hands when he joins up with Prime. Are those the hands you casted? Looks great by the way

yes they are magnus' RID hands, so they only bend at the one knuckle. I used an epoxy resin for teh casts and a two part molding putty for the molds. It creates a permenant flexible reuable mold. my second set with wrists are currently curing. they are removable after 5 minutes but as you can see it left tool marks pulling them out.

Yeah, I think with most of these things it's best to leave 'em longer than you think you need to. I've found with my castings that they actually seem to get more solid as time goes on - the arm I cast for Rapid Run was quite flexy when I first got it out, the next day it was a lot more solid, now, a couple weeks later, it's virtually rock hard.

yeah you are right about the hardness factor my first set are about rock now. the fingers are teh only part of new molds that have flex.
ok made a second set, I think I might get one or two more out before I have to make new molds. they are starting to tare a bit. The main problem with single piece 360 degree molds. I got some ball joints inserted for wrists this time. Beat that 3 minute clock. Still not perfect, but it beats 50 bucks on ebay for a set of hands and a scrapped big bot.

so I have been lookin through my bots and I think that either cybertron prime or metroplex, with some trimming of excess crap, would make some great hands for casting. however I only have one of each and dont want to kill them. does anyone have a scrap of either bot or any other scrap set of hands they would be willing to send me to try to cast?

Added a little resin dye to this one. Now I can make a full range of grays to black hands. This is a very light gray but enough to help the details stand up a bit under the camera.
