Asepticon’s Movie Custom Leader Brawl. (Pic Heavy)

OK, folks, I've been yammering about this for weeks. Heck, I've been working on this for weeks. My Leader Class Decepticon Brawl!!!

I'm still not quite done because every time I look at it, I find a mistake or something I want to fix. My original goal was to make it accurate to the movie concept image. I admittedly partially veered from that goal in part because I wanted to make it visually more interesting and also because the movie concept image is plainly a different design that does not look like the toy mold. I improvised.

Here's the beginning where I decided to cover his eyes and Base spray him with Krylon Ultra-Flat Black Spray Paint. I love that stuff. It makes a great base coat and it also gave me a clean slate to work on.

Here are some images in doors with a flash. The last images in this post obviously, were done outside in daylight to give you a better idea of what it looks like in person. You should note, first, that I did my very best to use the same cammo pattern as the concept image, however, I used Olive Drab for the green and instead of what probably was supposed to be forest green I decided to mix a really dark grey to make it look like a faded black. These colors are more like the Abrams I used to work around when I was in the Army. Most folks, who customize this figure and the deluxe version, also like to paint rust on him. Not me JACK! Dirt, OK, but it just doesn't make sense that an alien life form, capable of traveling all over space, would be susceptible to ordinary oxidation. Cosmic rust maybe, but I'm not going there either. The double barreled Gun at the top I painted gun metal because that kind of weapon must be clean, well oiled and, oh yeah, unpainted to function properly.

In robot mode, I want you to notice that most of his inner parts I made silver while most of his outer parts are Olive Drab and Gunmetal with very small accents of copper.

Now his head and face are something that I am definitely pleased with. I did my best to paint it like the concept art on the back of the figures box. A lot of people who do these leave the eyes alone, but I felt the need to actually give him the two little eyeball red dots and the rest of the eye area is in silver and black, matched up all the colors on his face with the colors on the back of the box.

This is probably also the first custom Brawl Ive seen without A LOT of dirt. There is very little dirt that is hard to see in the pics. I just wanted him to be a rugged war machine, not necessarily filthy. I hope you enjoy these pics.

He'd probably need a new or altered head. Flames from and Human torch or a ghost rider toy would look nice on it too :-?

I really like the head too. Dude, I sooooo used to say the same thing. All you need is a variety of Testors Model Master paints and some good quality brushes. You can do a little at a time, no need to get it done quickly. Give it a shot. Start with something small. Jin Saotome has an awesome tutorial on his website.

So I take it you are either working on one or you have done one. If you are done I would really love to see pics. I haven't seen one that I haven't liked because the details come out so good. Please post pics and thank you for the compliment.

Thanks, Chrlie. People like you make customs worth posting. I also posted on the Collector's Club and I think I got like 17 views with no comments. I guess Seibertron fans just rock harder

Very, very nice work.

I can't wait for him to come out over here, he's probably the movie figure I want the most. Especially if he ends up looking half as good as your's does!

P.s. I see your cat with the sinister glowing red eyes got in on the action! They just love having their photos taken don't they!!

LOL. I swear that must be the most customizable figure that I know of. I mean, with all the details on it that weren't colored its almost like the designers said,"well, the boss won't let us mass produce it with all the best coloring, but at least the fans will love painting it, ooo, I know, We'll not even completely color it and put unrealistic tactical colors on it so the fans will get the message that it really needs painting". Yeah, I love my cat, Akasha. He's a gem. I've never seen a bad custom painting of Deva-, I mean Demol-, I mean Brawl. :P

That rocks. You used canned black spray paint? Not an airbrush?

For the base coat I used Krylon spray paint. Not just any spray paint will do. Krylon is specially formulated to meld to plastic. It is often used for outdoor furniture. It does not get the drips either. I seriously suggest using it for folks who want to do a good base coat. Also it's cheap and easy and is found at Walmart Hobby Lobby and any other craft store.
