I saw Transformers at an Imax in Raleigh today. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that we are able to see the characters and they're colors much better on the IMAX screen. As I watched the movie, I took mental notes on the various colorschemes of the characters. I've also noted some mistakes that people who are try to make movie acurated custom toys are making. It could be because we can only remember so much or that we are going more off the concept image or one of the few movie pictures available on the internet. The point is that waiting on the DVD or watching at the IMAX will greatly enhance your movie acurate creations. Check it out!

I agree 100%.
I saw it in IMAX as well on friday, was unbelievable to see the detail as so. I want freeze frame shots of the various characters, i suppose once it hits DVD there will be plenty more reference.
I originally saw TF at the hollywood red carpet, I think the sound and digital quality was MUCH better than IMAX. plus, I was watching it with all the people responsible for making the film exist, the audience anticipation, screaming, and cheering made it that much better as well.

Well, I had to drive about 67 miles to get to an IMAX. I will say, also, that the sound quality was much better at the theater in Road Island when I went to BOTCON. I was exspecting better sound from an IMAX.

I'm no expert on IMAX, but I thought it just made the screen bigger... not sure how that would affect how the colors are displayed?
Our movie theater has converted over to something called "DLP" -- is this an improvement vs IMAX (not in size but in color resolution)?
Again, no expert just curious if someone knows...

From what I understand of IMAX, not only is the screen bigger, but the actual frames of film are larger too. So the details are clearer.
Here's the wikipedia page about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImaxIMAX (short for Image Maximum) is a film format created by Canada's IMAX Corporation that has the capacity to display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film display systems.
And here's the wikipedia page about DLP:

Also, the seating is seeper and closer to the screen as well. You still see the whole movie screen, but it's as if you are getting a closer look.

one difference I do know about IMAX is the sound.
I saw TF in a brand new IMAX theatre, the sound system i think was 12,000 or 1200 watts of sound.
the usher came out and warned the audience prior to the film starting about the sound. He said typical theatres pump out sound at about 2.2 decipals - the theatre I was in pumped out at about 10.5, needless to say, there were many kids screaming in fear and the chairs would shake from the bass.

That's how it was at Botcon, but not my IMAX. Bastards
