DreadWing into SkyWarp - Kitbash and Repaint

I've had DreadWing for awhile but I never really dug his lenshead look, but I loved his alt mode. So today I decided to turn him into my favorite Seeker, SkyWarp.

The pics are kind of hard to see, he's alot darker then the pics show, but the paint is so reflective he looks lighter. And now the original large cockpit head lays flat down his back, out of the way and not quite so goofy looking.

Image
you can actually see a mirror reflection of the wing in his tail wing in this pic. Way cool.

Ahh I see so much better with a head.

looks good man, i actually have been thinking about doing something with that mold. So how did you do the head do you have to take it off to transform him. that looks really nice how you did him.

100000X better with a new head!

the head swivels side to side, that's about all the articulation it has. I took the 'lens' out of his head and made as much room as I could, the side panels that pop out the side of the cockpit kind of get in the way internally but it's not too bad. Mostly it was finding a head small enough to fit, and even then I had to file it down and make it a little more bullet shaped.

I'm a lot happier with the figure though. I love the alt mode, when I saw it in the store I just grabbed it and never even looked at the bot mode, so I was kinda bummed when I got home ad saw his cheesy lens head.

But I love SkyWarp and Screamer, so I think he's a lot better now. Besides, DreadWing warps and had all that black and purple, he was just begging to be turned into SkyWarp.

I wish they'd release a SkyWarp in the movie mold like they did ThunderCracker.

I think DreadWarp needs some more purple in places, like the tail fins, and I've got to get some Decepticon stickers, but he's pretty much done. Maybe a wee bit more detailing, lol.

You turned a goofy toy design into a work of art.

Very nice.

Where is the head from? I'm curious how his back side looks like in robot mode. As well as the plane's underside.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the head is Cybereron Breakdown's head with a bit of work done on it.

The Jet mode looks outstanding although it would benefit from some Decepticon insignias. Its too bad the Bot mode is just so ugly and disproportioned.

Still its a very nice job.

I actually prefer the lens-head, but that paint job is fantastic!

Wow thanks for the nice comments. I've always done 1:1 movie replica/prop work, so this is the first complete redo I've done on such a small scale. Sadly I never even messed with models. So figuring out how to paint something so small has presented unique challenges, but your kind comments mean a lot.

I do believe he said his name was BreakDown before I decapitated him. He was a little black and yellow car with kind of a switchblade sword thing on his hood. And yeah, his head did need quite a bit of work to fit into DreadWing.

Got somemore pics since someone asked to see the back of the bot and the underside of the plane.

Again I hope you enjoy them. He was a lot of fun to do and he's gone from being one of my most hated TF's to one that I really, really like now.

*sigh* If only I could afford a MasterPiece SkyWarp, lol. But this will have to do in the meantime.

BackDaFugUp or my thruster hands will incinerate you!

Cockpit now lays flat down the back, out of the way. Though I've been kicking around the idea of making it some kind of over the shoulder cannon ala SoundWave.

and the other stuff I've been working on the past week. Megatron Voyager, Prime Voyager, Jazz and lil' Scorpy. You can actually see some of Prime reflected in Jazz. A little nicer then the flat factory gray it came with.

Thank you for looking, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I know, but the challenge was finding a head that would fit into the cockpit when I fold it up to take him into alt mode.

a little funny I admit, but I think it also makes him look stronger, like his chest is bigger looking with a smaller head.

and you're 100% right that he needs some decepticon logos. I tried painting some very tiny ones, but kind of gave up. I just can't paint a detailed logo the size of a pepple, lol. It's hard to make it look symetrical at that size. Like I said I'm used to making large size stuff for movies and fans. Masks, costumes, props, etc. This small scale stuff is completely brand new to me.

But it's a hell of a lot of fun!

You can hit reprolables.com for some Decepticon insigniaI you can glue onto him.

And I wasn't complaining about your head. It looks pretty good. Just the mold, hasbro could have produced a more proportionate figure.

Loving the new shiny Jazz.

Your Megatron is one awesome paintjob too.

He looks realistic. Looks like he's gonna squash Scorponok anytime now.

What ways can the legs be lengthen without sacrificing the jet's proportions?
