Titanium Series Ultra Magnus - Diaclone Repaint (WIP)

This is my first repaint. I've been working on it for a while. There may be some parts added to it. I was thinking of adding functional missile launchers instead of the plastic ones he came with.

It's a hand-paint with a mix of flat and gloss. I'm using Testors. Apoxie Scult was used to fill the screw holes.

Again, it's a WIP:

Looking forward to seeing the finnished article. This may be a moot point since you're planning on adding in working launchers but if you swap the shoulders left for right you can attatch the stock launchers right way up rather than upside down as it comes from the box. Best bit about this mod is that it just involves switching parts that are on ball joints so if you're not keen on the result you can switch it straight back.

Also, and I can't tell from your photos whether you've already done this or not, if you swap the thighs left for right then the knees will be able to bend backwards rather than forwards. Helps with posability and much more 'natural'.

edit - Just realised that having already filled in the screwholes may have scuppered you with that second one.

Lol, yes, it may be too late for that but I thank you anyway. I may get another one off eBay to work on since this is my first and I know it'll be far from perfect when it's finished. I still think it's a decent attempt on my part. This will at least teach me about customs and what can and can't work.

I changed my mind about using a Magnus Myclone or Robot Heroes head. I'm actually going to take a head from an extra Terrorcon Hun-Grrr figure I have, drill THIN holes down either side, insert paper clips for antennas, and cover with Apoxie Sculpt with a red paint job over the purple of course. Thoughts?

Edit: I just uploaded a rendered pic of what the head would look like. I think the size is better proportioned than the factory one.

As promised, a new head I'll be using for this figure:

Good luck with the head.

Can't wait to see the finished version.

If I may suggest, a KO SUperion head also makes a really nice Magnus head

I'll keep that in mind, but you know, I've never seen Superion's head close up. Since it was almost all black, I assumed he had a Prime style faceplate like Bruticus. But I've noticed he actually has a mouth. Would the head be proportionate?

Um...I can't see the pics in the first post.
Anyhoo, looking good with the head, I can totally see Magnus. You are gonna sand it down, right?

Yes, I mainly wanted to reinforce the antennas, which I propped up with paper clips, and fill the gaping hole in the back. Rest assured, it will be sanded down.

Any suggestions regarding his chest plate? It's so plain given all the black gloss.

Edit: pics have been re-linked in the first post.

For the chest, maybe put a little blue or white on some of the detail spaces.
And, pics work now, thanks.
Looks good.

New Custom Idea

Sunstreaker

Head: Micromaster Devastator
Body: Universe Swerve

It's just an idea at this point but imagine Swerve's body painted gold/yellow with MM Dev's head. I think it could make a cool Sunstreaker. Thoughts?

Actually, now that I think about it, it might be a BIT big, but still might work. Also, I LOVE the Sunstreaker idea.

Even if it's big, I'd still like to experiment with KOs so that's an idea at least.

Regarding Sunstreaker: I hate Swerve's hands. They're not your classic fists with the hole in the center to hold accesories. They're oddly shaped. Hell, even the rocket launchers attach onto the arms themselves, but I'll be using those for my Magnus custom.

Anyway, I like this idea. I've played around with it in my head since first taking Swerve out of the box. I'm actually a little disappointed in that figure. It lacks articulation and it brings the cool design down quite a bit so I'm going to make the arms and legs more poseable as well.

I would have imagined you've taken time to fix the assembly error (Upper legs are mounted back to front).

Unfortunately, I didn't. But this is my first custom. I intend on ordering another Magnus for customization later anyway.

But now that I think about it...

Couldn't this be fixed without taking it apart?

The top part of the legs can be rotated on the joint (I think) so the legs are facing backwards. Then you slide what's underneath that portion so that it's forward again while the top is facing away. This would mean the screw holes are forward:

This is actually very good. It'll be a nice reference.

I'm uncertain as to what type of yellow I should use. Perhaps something BBish? Anyone know the exact type?

Tit. Magnus Leg Problem

So I thought of a way to remedy the Tit. Magnus leg problem since it was a little too late to take them apart. I'll be using the Dremel to sand the back of the legs down just enough for them to bend backward. It'd be freakish, but it gives Magnus extra articulation in the legs since he can also bend them forward. Thoughts?

I don't have pics at the moment but I sanded down the back of the legs so they can bend backwards since it was already too late to swap the legs out. What's funny is Ultra Magnus is now double jointed.

About Sunstreaker:
I think the base toy is a genius idea, add some poseability and it's money.
The head though, i'm not too hot on, it seems too "sharp" around hte side vents and doesn't seem Autobot enough.
