It has been decreed, Jin Saotome is the universe's greatest kitbasher!

NOT!

While I appreciate all the awesome comments and great feedback about my work, I'm actually just like any of you out there. I'm not the universe's best kitbasher, or even this board's best. There's people out there who can reshell a VW bug model to make a Bumblebee, something I have no idea how to do. There's people who cast parts and make clear-resin energy blasts, still something I haven't tackled. I host my work on boards for one main purpose..

To inspire people.

The greatest 'wow' factor for me is seeing people start coming up with things similar to mine, spawn new ideas based off of something I've done, or following the same theme I might of helped start. I'm one of the people who don't go, "Oh great, someone's copying me." but instead give out all my ideas and tips so that anyone can replicate or come close to replicating what I do.

I feel my strength lies in my vision, not my painting or kitbashing skills. That being said, it's not fair to say a custom of mine is better than someone else's. Since eveyone has different strengths and visions it's not really fair to say anyone's is better than anyone else's.

Customizing is a hobby that's learned over time and plays to how much free-time someone has, their accessibility to parts/tools/figures, their life situation, and of course their skill. Maybe someone can't get Apoxie Sculpt and has to use sculpy, or even plumber's epoxy to sculpt with. We don't know the details of what was going on with their custom so it's not fair to say it sucks, no matter what it looks like.

Ok, so there's my big explanation. We're all friends here, customizers or fans, artists or day-dreamers. Recognize the good from all the works of art you see and help people where you can. But most of all have fun!

I say it's time for another group hug... long as we get some ladies in here.

Jin, let me be the first to say that you _do_ inspire with your work. You, along with several others, have made some incredible pieces.

While my work pales in comparison, and is generally simplistic, I almost always end up happy with the end result.

Kitbashing/customizing gives me a way to exercise the creative part of the brain. I spend all day managing people and planning IT projects, so to come home and focus my mind on something fun, makes collecting TFs a great hobby and one that I can get as involved with as I want or am able to.

I don't know if I would've attempted any of the projects that I've completed without the support of everyone on this board.

While I still feel like a noob, I hope that I add something to Seibertron and that people value my opinions. Hopefully, I'll get to meet a lot of you at a future Botcon (crosses fingers).

OK, I'm done with my feel-good moment. Who's up for a round of beers???!!!???

WOW, you and I are in agreement I feel the same way. If I thought anything I made previously would be judged by Jin's standard of art. I probably wouldn't post my stuff. He is a great idea man and artist and I have been inspired encouraged and taught by his works and website info. He also seems like a nice fella so do I consider him when I create, heck yeah, there'sa little Jin and some Sean Tessman in everything I do. There are several GREAT artists in this forum and another that make me glow if or when I get a good comment from them concerning my works. I do think the world of Jin as an artist. I know he's not the only one, but I don't think anyone (even you Jin) can deny that he is a biggie.

Every one here gives me the inspiration to keep on going with repaints. I've always been very critical of my own work, but the nice comments every one gives is one of the things I like about this site.

My senior year in high school, I had nothing but art classes. It was my life back then. That was almost 10 years ago, and I hardly did anything art related until I stumbled across this site. It really brings back that spark I used to have.

Be it a group hug, or whatever, I raise my glass to you Jin, and everyone else here also.

Yup I know why you posted this and I want to apologies for that what has been going on over the past few months every time someone posts a kitbash.

It's just disgusting to read the posts some pp make in those threads, that's why I hardly ever bother to read or post in one of em anymore, pp just act stupid in em.

But consider the poster.

How do you think they feel when they don't get much feedback and instead find their thread full of stupidity?

I know a few people have stated that it was my kitbashes of my HMW team that inspired them to a hand at kitbashing themselves.

I know i'm not good, but like Jin, knowing i've inspired others means a bloody lot. Sure i'd love a bit more feedback but eh, I kitbash for myself first and for whoever else wants to look second.

But please (and this is to all), if a person posts a piece of work give them as much positive feedback as you can, especially if it's one of their first pieces of work. We all should encourage each other to bring out our best and ignore the stupidity.

Yep yours are inspiring, so inspiring I bid on a crap loead of broken TFs with a G1 Ramjet, so I could make something like the first of yours I saw, but unfortinatly Jetfiere was one of em, so I never won

ahem ... just because it's Saturday night for me doesn't make me drunk! :P (I only have one vodka cruiser left and i'm saving that for tomorrow night)
(And i've never been completely wasted in my life. All my posts are pure 100% stupidity)

Junker boxes are a kitbashers dream!
(Note how I didn't say much about me inspiring DM? Because I honestly don't know how to react to it. But it does mean a lot that I can inspire someone to have a go. Thanks DM, it is appreciated.)

Since I started kitbashing i've relied pretty much on junkers for the bases of my bashes. Only recently have I actually been using (semi)fresh out of the box figures.

Seriously, I can't recommend picking up a junker and transforming it into a whole new character. There's a lot of fun to be had in giving new life to a 20+ year old figure.
Especially when you grab some huge honking Gundam / Armoured Core guns and slap 'em on.

What Saturday night?! It's Saturday morning over here, well it's 11.35 am.
Oh they were so very busted, I could only see it was ramjet cos, hof his color, he was missing his armn and wings, but I've been storing a bit of Gundam and some left overs of my Childhood TF, for Kitbashing, just need paint and some more putty, oh how I love playing with putty!

Jin, I just want to say that I appreciate that you took the time to make that painting guide - I'm still in the planning stages for my first project but now I feel like I won't just be flailing in space.

Well, not as much flailing, I mean.

I've appreciated seeing every single custom/repaint/etc. come across this board, no matter the creator.

Hey Jin,

I really got a kick out of your custom Unicron. I was over at Toys-R-Us last weekend when I spotted the figure you used as it's basis and thought about making one of my own for my collection.

Anyways, keep up the good work. I enjoy hitting up your website from time to time to see what's new. It shows that a lot of other people also enjoy it, as your ebay sales indicate! ;)

Cheers!
Dev

Thanks Dev, Deep, glad you all are using my guides and getting some ideas from my work.

Thanks everyone else who's posted too because that's what I like to see here, more understanding. We definatly need to post positivly on everyone's customs. I wish I could post more often but I'm really busy so I don't get a lot of time. However if you see something cool, definatly give a good comment, especially if they're a new customizer.

And thanks everyone for continuing to make the Seibertron boards here a fun place to post!

I bought the figure myself. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I have considered Pre BW Transmutate.

Make a new kind of Quintesson maybe? Their faces are creepy enough.
