Classics GALVATRON with space-cannon alt mode!

Wow, I ended up with 3 Energon Megatrons in trades this week! Galvatron was an obvious choice of custom (one of the Megs I'm keeping) of course and here he is, decked out in a 'Classics' theme I suppose. Actually it's almost straight G1 with the color scheme and setup where he turns into the Space Cannon for his alt mode. I added a balljoint to his neck and made two spots where the particle accelerator cannon attches to his arm (on the side for storage, then on the forearm so he can aim it straight). The barrel of the cannon itself is made from a gaint pen I found at Rite Aid and the mounting base is made from some bionicle/microman parts. Snap on the treads and he becomes the space-cannon, whee! I'll be gone until Wednesday (leaving tonight for family stuff) so if you have any questions I'll answer them when I return. Until then, enjoy Galvatron in all his G1 glory!

Awsome work there. How did you get that metallic orange on the cannon?

Another breautiful and imaginative piece. How do you do it? I mean who goes to Rite Aid and says, "ya know, that pen would make an excelent canon for Galvatron. I need to be in artist mode more often, I guess. :???:

Is there anyway we can get pictures of him in varying phases of transformation?

He's awesome looking, I just wanna see where everything goes

I've been following your work for a long time, and I have to say, I don't know how you manage to out-do yourself every time! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Great work as always. Though the cannon needs more of a back end, like the G1 version.

Any reason you don't leave the treads on when transformed? :???:

'Tis awesome. You got pretty good quality control Jin, I haven't seen a subpar custom you have posted. Kudos.

Ah I've been having this idea for ever since I bought him, but I need a spare one to do it.
Is that the two pack version, his head looks better then mine!

This is so very awesome, love the paint aps!
Good job, keep it up!

Jin's gone for a bit, but I'm going to guess it is because they would be sticking up in the back, based on the transformation, much like Energon Shockblast's backpack sticks up, only uglier.

What COULD be done to fix that problem, is this:

See, it appears that it is already on a ball joint, so by removing that plate of plastic, it would allow the treads to rotate 180 degrees and would hang over his shoulders, rather than stick up behind them. :)

This Galvatron certainly has the nicest G1-styled alternate mode out of all of the Energon Galvatron customs I've ever seen. The kibble does bother me a bit though. It seems like an unecessary cop-out in this case because with the way it's connected, it doesn't look like it has to be removed for the robot mode. Also, the arm cannon mount seems really tiny next to such a huge barrel. I'd imagine it would snap off in battle rather easily.

The painting is beautiful as always. I've wondered how non-movie figures might take to dry and wet brush techniques.

He looks great in bot mode, but I'd like him a lot more if you didn't have to take his treads off to transform him.

Nope, take a look again. To me they pop on over the shaft and could already rotate down behind the shoulders.

Balance issue perhaps? I dunno, i'd still like to see a pic with them still connected.

Sprayed the cannon piece with Krylon Chrome silver and then gave it three coats of Tamiya clear orange very carefully so it's one solid color. Turned out way better than I expected!

Uh... I do, lol! Seriously, ever see that Macguyver credit card commercial where he's buying a bunch of random junk to carry around just in case? That's what my purchases look like at Wal mart or wherever. A bunch of random stuff that I can see working as something else.

I was kinda worried about that too but leaving his legs untransformed lengthened him, but also made him look like he was just lying down. I kinda like the bulky cannon-look because it's like he has giant energy turbines/batteries on top. Also I like removable parts and try to include those in all my TF customs. I cannot stand Kibble-formers, gah.

Nope, he's the big one. But I have the 1/2-sized two pack one right here in front of me... he's going to be made into someone entirely different... muhahah!

Tom_Servo wrote:He looks great in bot mode, but I'd like him a lot more if you didn't have to take his treads off to transform him.

I'm trying to wean people off the fact that everything has to fit on a character somewhere. That's what I call a kibble-former and keeps me from enjoying all of the Transformers characters. The cartoon had pieces of them mass-shift out of sight all the time but we don't have that technology yet. So I prefer to mass-shift the pieces into my pocket rather than bulk up a perfectly good robot form or have stuff hanging off the back.

Here's a back shot with the horrible tread-kibble and crap attached to him as some wanted:

Dude, you're a genious and all, but I personaly like it that way. That is, I'd rather have the kibble former than a parts former. It's kinda apart of the whole TF concept. It's nice to see that the option is available to the VERY lucky winner of your auction. It really is a fabulous piece, even with kibble.

You know, that's an interesting way of thinking. I don't agree, nor do I disagree.

Personally if I can fit 'em on and it looks good i'll do it.

But at the same time, I feel compelled to do it regardless of how it looks because that seems to be the modern trend.

I'm going to have to take some pics of my latest project and get your opinion on it. If I adopt this way of thinking it'd save me a little bit of trouble.
