I've seen some sloppy looking Thundercracker repaints but this one is actually pretty darn nice. The only fault I can see in him are the stripes on the wings.

The rest of him has a matte finish to it, its just the black parts i had to use gloss enamel paint because i didnt have anything else to use and im broke. :(

Whats wrong with them? They look better in alt mode and with better pics trust me. I thought they looked a bit off as well when i looked at the pics but im sure its just the angle, the lighting and the molded bits of detail the wings have and they make the lines look wonky.

I said the same thing as Devastator when I first saw this. The contours and detail in the wings throw off your stripes. I'd fill in those cracks and/or add some thin styrene in the shape of the red/white stripes.

So you want me to take away detail from the toy in favor of making the lines look razor straight from all angles?

....are you crazy?

I know they throw off the lines, but im not going to fill in important details just to fix it. Its an unavoidable evil im afraid. Id rather that then have bland looking wings with no detail in them, besides they look perfectly fine to me. Plus its not only cracks but bumps too, styrene wouldn't help at all, and would only make the wings look thicker and uglier since there would be a ridge along where the lines are.

I dont understand peoples obsession with perfection when making stuff with their own hands. I keep telling this to my wife who tries to make jewelry and shes never totally happy with how they turn out because she wants them to look perfect but i tell her "its hand made, it cant be perfect but its the imperfections that add to the charm".

I didn't manage to take any better pictures today, but i will try my best to do so tomorrow as these preview pics really don't flatter the toy much.

Thanks, im quite pleased with the smoothness, it almost looks like molded blue plastic in real life...i was quite surprised with the finish.
It came out much better than i expected.
I guess thats one advantage of using an airbrush, your almost always guaranteed a great finish.

I think i might make another one to sell now i know this one has been well received.

Ya' know, the lighting in the first pic makes the paint look metallic.

Funny you should say that cos i was originally thinking of using metallic paint but it was too dark a shade of blue, so i mixed together a different blue with some white to get this shade. I didnt want to go with the sky blue color of the botcon version as i dont like that color very much period, yet alone on one of my customs so i went for this shade of blue instead. You'll see once i take better pics anyway.

All I am saying is the painted stripes could have been done so they don't look sloppy, just constructive critisism. I'm sorry you aren't getting just compliments, you want feedback, right?

I would recommend filling in the cracks and details in the least. looking at your photos, the white and red paint that seeped into the grooves and contours is a major eye sore (to me)

It is tough to find good light metallics.
And I can totally understand that you didn' use sky blue, because I hate that color.

Frenzy_Ruble, stop while your ahead.
Put up some better customs and then talk all you want.

sorry Sherade, was I missing the point of this thread? I always thought people welcome constructive critisim with open arms...kinda the point of a kitbash open forum.

Ya know, devastator mentioned the same thing I did, and I offered alternative options for the artist.

No, that isn't it, I actually entirly diss customs every now and then.
You just go too blunt on it, and serious people don't take crap like that.

meh, well I thought if I were to post my repaints on here, I'd welcome (and want) critisism MORE than 'wow, nice job" comments.

Yeah but you probably would sing a different tune when we say something like "looks sloppy, so you should do this ....."
Becasue it gets annoying. Now, if we said this "Maybe you might want to...." it sounds somewhat less aggresive and people will more openly accept it.
Although, I can't understand why you's bore of good comments. It just means people respect it and don't want to challenge it knowing it is (often) better than their skills. Trust me, you should see my kitbashes.if your eyes don't melt first.

ah, then ya got me wrong, I think this is phenominal work, Sonray, hats off to you. I originally tried saying it nicely and constructively, but got back a reply which didn't sync too well.

All kitbashers get critisism, and welcome it, but none ever turn the cheek to a recommendation and say 'you're wrong'
