Don't know if anyone else has done this yet. Here's my Ultra Magnus without the arm kibble. I think he looks way better like this.
I removed the cab halves from the arms and glued them to the front bumper. The only difference in transformation is that the grill/cab halves needs to be flipped out before the rest of the cab transformation.
I removed the pins holding the halves on, then sawed off the tabs used for the pins and the tab on top that connects the halves to the truck cab. I also removed enough of the tabs that connect the halves to the grill so the halves could clear flip out cleanly without being caught up on the cab or the grill.

Interesting idea you had there. I don't quite like the look of the back now thou. Reminds me of quazimodo.

Yeah, I have Optimus and I really dislike that arm kibble.
Looks great, but I do agree with Kalon about the back now. Not your fault, they just stuck way too much different pieces on the mold.

This mod didn't change the vehicle mode at all. When I put my bashed truck next to my original one, I can't tell them apart.

I'm wondering if there isn't some way to make the doors swing out like wings or maybe up onto his shoulders into sort of Evangelion-ish fins.

Does that change his stability much?

That looks really slick! Removed the Arm kibble and swung it behind the figure... Congrats, I really like this!

The cab halves are so light that it doesn't seem to affect his stability at all.

Yeah, it would potentially be possible to mount them on a pin. They would be able to swing out like Megatron's wings. I don't know about the Evangelion-ish fins though. I generally don't like having to remove and reattach any pieces, and I'm not sure how I'd engineer the fins while keeping them attached to the main figure.
Now that I know this mod will work, I may rework it so the cab halves can mechanically slide closer together while in robot mode. That would make it less bulky from the back view, though the side view would remain the same.
Here's a rough of what I mean. The cab halves would be able to slide in and out.

Lets say to cover that part of his back beeing visible, since he is Magnus, maybe you can atach some cannons from Guntank, or some other Gundam series, size wise similar to Magnus.Maybe some awsomelly painted wings, like Wingzero had. Or maybe the diks from Mercurious?.

The Magnus/ Skywarp 2-pack just went on clearance at Target, so I gave this one a try... with my own twist. Whaddya think?

Personally, I prefer the first version.
I think the second one would work better if the 'wings' were higher on his back, accenting his shoulders. As is, they're just there.

Nice concept, but I like the arm kibbles. I like fold them out so it looks like arm blades, kinda like the Guyver or Getter Robot.
