Cybertron Thundercracker, new arm

Well, a while back I'd gotten into discussion about wanting to do this mod, but not wanting to have to buy a whole new TC just for the arm. A friend on another board donated a TC my way, and off to work I went. :)

While I've seen it done before, I've also seen that a few people didn't redo the new hand into a lefty. So I shaved down the old thumb and cut a groove on the 'back' part of the old hand to make the new inner palm. I puttied on a new thumb and filled in the old groove on the other side. Then I painted both hands black. Actually looks better that way.

It's not the most professional job, but it's better than having a thumb on the back of your hand ;)

As shown on the other mods' pictures in the past, once again the arm sticks out the back in jet mode. Still, it doesn't look all too bad. (There've been worse--take BW Dinobot's robot legs in beast mode)

I had to cut down the original hinge for the old arm/fuselage/weapon so that the new arm would fit a little more flush with the underside. I also needed to keep most of the hinge so that it could lock down properly, or the entire fuselage assembly would just slide off the front hooks on TC's back.

So, how's he look?

Awesome!
I think everyone wants to do that, it's great to see it done!
Arms fold and stay nicley?
Oh and i reckon the price of a new TC would be worth it....

Wow, he really does look a lot better with two normal sized arms.

Damn, now I want a Thundercracker. :?

There really was a lot I liked about Thundercracker, but the arm was such a let-down that I passed him completely. This looks very nice, although I really don't want to buy two just to be able to do this.

Here are some pics per request.

The arm cannon simply stays on the back. Still removeable, but it clips on because I kept most of the hinge piece to lock it down.

Hope this is a good enough shot from underneath.

I like it. I s'pose you could consider the extra arm to represent a cargo hold or something, if you liked.
Is he still able to hold his cannon - have you fitted a post to it at all to make it hand-held?

I haven't modified the old arm into a cannon just yet. I sort of sacrificed that for more room above where the new arm goes in jet mode. I could do something I suppose--I kinda wanted to do a cool shoulder mount of some kind.

And yeah, the only way it might be worth it to some of you is if he appears in one of those two-packs with a figure you don't already have or may want to kitbash anyway...or something.
