yay! finished it!
I always tought that with the right colors the centrepiece of Downshifts claw could look like the Matrix. An Optimus Musclecar would look a bit stupid so my next choice was Rodimus. I made some flame stickers for him to help the character. The red is pretty cool, its a metallic color.

My first paintjob, Im pretty happy.

So...what do you guys think?

Not sure on the head. Other than that I like it. Maybe if you cut off the two top air intakes it would look a little more like hotrod. Also, I see you cut down the cylinder coming out of the matrix. That is a great matrix find and I think you could shape the center blue part a little more. If only you had the right size cup bur it would be so easy and look perfect.

I really like the idea of an older Hotrod as this character. For years I've consitered making an old stingray into Hotrod, which shapelyness would lend itself to the character well, but the stingray isn't nearly as much of a "hotrod" in the classic sence of the term as this one is. Nice painting as well.

looks sweet but if I may offer a small critique, the front fender could use a bit of paint more, I can still see the original paintapps through the metallic red.

I have to agree the head looks a little strange, but otherwise this guy rocks.

What are you guys talking about? It's the inside of the clamp, as it comes from the factory, painted to look like the matrix.

:P
Just needed some paint, thats all. IMO the inside of the claw allready looked a lot like the matrix, that was the single reason for starting this.

Black Arachnis:
I know, some of the original paintjob can be seen (the silver and black) but I like how it gives multiple shades of red.

Thanx for all the comments...
Youre right about the head, but it was the obly spare deluxe head I could use. I peronally like the new look but I might consider te change it when I find a better one.

Outstanding paint apps, Rem.

I really like the idea of the matrix opening. The only thing that seems odd is the claws. Unless it's a defense mechaniism if Meagtron trys to take it. :D

Terrific work!

That's a valid point, I guess. I never really noticed the teeth on the claws before. But I s'pose if you wanted to they'd be easy enough to clip off and file down.

again, the blue ball coming out of the matrix is the only thing that really bugs me, other than that, any thing else is minor at most.

Actually, I was kinda worried to do anything on the orange parts. Im afraid the plastic will become to scratched and losse ts transparency. Any one of you altered transculant parts without visible scars?
and the color is a deep metallic red btw. might just be my cam or your sreen settings, dunno.

No problem. Just need to file smooth, and sand up to a HIGH grit sandpaper. I mean like automotive store sandpaper ment to sand car paint. Its like glass, if its all scuffed and scratched up, it looks like crap, but if you can get it back to smooth, almost polished, it will go back to the clear look.

Oh, and DON'T snap off any plastic. either saw or file it off. When you bend translucents like that, you break a larger deeper area of the plastic on a molecular level, and everything around the area you're snapping will get a wierd white color to it. That is basically because you have separated the molecules and no matter how smooth you try to get the surface, on a really small scale its pitted and will never be polished and clear again, unless you dig deep enough, sand past it.

heh...That whas exactly what I was afraid of. You see it on normal plastic aswell when it gets stressed.

Thanks guys.. Im not sure yet if I want to loose the claws but ill consider it. Just gonna test it first on some spare energon-starts or somethin alike.

Remcoow.
