Excellent job. I too prefer the silver version over the grey version. Given that the grey colors in the cartoon were meant to simulate sillver to begin with, Silver is just a better choice to paint him regardless of how “cartoon accurate” you want to get.

Oh, just for the record, you didn’t have to totally replace the existing green eyes to get red eyes. All you needed to do was paint the green eyes with red acrylic clear-coat.

Interestingly enough, the grey one is up on Ebay (I remember seeing it a few days ago).

Hey there everyone! Thanks for the kind words. The silver Megatron is up on EBay this week now.
Ahh, so Megs was always suppose to be silver in the cartoon! I see all the Palisades statues of him grey, figured he was suppose to be an odd-colored gun!
Ya know I tried painting over the light-pipe eyes with clear red and kept ending up with the eyes too dark. They wouldn't light up in regular light, but they did look a nice red under a desk lamp. I still use the green chunk of light-pipe for the main head to direct the light, I just nipped off the protruding eye parts and replaced those.
Any more suggestions for Megatron? I'm thinking of snagging a 3rd one from Target when I got back to town tomorrow.

Palisades doesn’t use any metallic paints, tt’s all chromatics, so that isn’t much of a surprise.
As for the optics, next time just apply the clearcoat to the optics themselves and not the entire thing. And only a light coat, don’t go too heavy. Another option, that might look even better is use clear orange instead of clear red. It will allow more light through, and make his optic look fiery. If you do go with orange, I would recommend coating ther entire piece, not just the optics.

Hey Jin. If you want to see what the optics look like with orange clear-coat, check out the [b]Official Classics Minor Mods[b] thread over in the Homages: Kitbashes forum.

awesome stuff. I think a perfect finishing touch would be a purple led instead of red though. Just cause thats the color of Megatrons blasts in the cartoon. But then again, they did put a green piece of plastic in MP Primes gun instead of yellow, so really my comment can be disregarded.
