Conversion, SHACKwave to SHOCKwave...I hope...

I got one of the Radio Shack (or other store) gray Shockwave toys that sold during the same time as that year's Transformers line. Ran on Ebay for about $30 or so, and the electronics still worked. Nice deal.

Well, I've had it for a couple of years, and I finally decided to paint him up like Shockwave.

The purple is lighter than the original, but I think it's a nice shade. But I'm facing a dilemma. I bought the spray paint I'm using about a year ago. I'm running low, and I can't find any more of it. It was a Krylon spray paint, called "Home Decor." The shade was Plumb Royale Satin.

I thought I found a comperable shade of Krylon Int/Ext Plumb, but it's a half-shade darker. Plus it's gloss. And this other stuff really did have a nice glove-like fit over the surfaces I've painted with it.

I'm hoping I have enough left in this one can to finish the project--I've actually painted the other leg, as well as the head and front half of the body. I think I have enough to complete the back half and the speaker compartment, so hopefully I'll have finished pictures soon.

If you can't find anymore, you can get away with using what you have left on the leg and then painting the body a slightly different color. Alternatively, you could buy another can of paint more similar to the original and try repainting the whole thing. Make sure you take that sticker off before painting over it! :D

Yeah, I was thinking of repainting. But the stuff I bought that was close is too glossy, and most other shades of purple are way too bright or too dark.

But it looks like I have JUST enough to do everything. I'm being pretty sparce with my spraying, and I have a few spots to go, plus the under-panel of the speaker box. I just might make it. ;)

And yes, I peeled the sticker already. :D

well if you dont have enough to finish .. or something happens.. repaint with the close color that is glossy.. but find a matte clear coat.. that will take care of the gloss...

Nice one - I'm doing the same thing at the mo to my non-RS KO (brown with plastic thighs).

Looking good. Too bad there isn’t anything that can be done about the trigger. You don’t want to know what it looks like while he’s in robot mode

I know. I need to get a Shockwave trigger if possible to switch this one out. (I'm too afraid of ruining the trigger if I try and mod it)

If you check out the shockwave toy gallery over at Seibertron.com, you should be able to use those as reference and fabricate your own trigger. From the pics I saw, the design of the trigger itself isn’t all that comlicated so it shouldn’t be too hard to make.

nice

That is quite spiffy, the paint looks very nice, if only you could make the second laser blast the actual effect that happened when you cut it on.

isn't the hand supposed to be painted black??

In the show, Shockwave's hand was a light purple. The original toy's hand was translucent purple just like his gun "hand."

I actually prefer the clear parts to the transparent purple of the TF toy. It's something I decided I wasn't going to try painting/swapping out, etc.

Oh, and I repainted the eye yellow. I'll post that later.

This guy really does look fantastic. The colors are much closer to the show and the painting seems rather flawless.

Yeah. Hopefully I can find a new trigger. Anyone have a destroyed Shockwave with an intact trigger, I'd be interested. :D

Dev: That goes to show the Krylon brand. This stuff coats like a second skin, but I can't find the particular stuff anymore. (Home Decor, Krylon doesn't seem to have that line of paint in existance these days)

Anyway, new pic with yellow eye.

Wal Mart has Krylon but not alot of color choices at the one nearby...Maybe yours will have more.

Nope, mine are about the same. That's where I got the Home Decor from last time.

Well, as I said before, you could always try and fabricate one yourself. Just use the reference from the Seibertron.com gallery for Shockwave. The design isn’t that complex.
