Insecticons II: Shrapnel

Shrapnel so far...

Still need to add more yellow to the vehicle mode, and need to buy a detailing marker to add the black lines on the forearms.

I still want purple/yellow details added to the vehicle, but there's not physical clearance for adding stripes like on Bombshell. What I may do is pick up some insect stencils and spray those on the doors.

Looks pretty cool, hows he look with the doors removed? And any chance your gonna add something to look like his shoulder spikes/Insect feelers?

And I'd do the red with the black on his wrists, look more like the toy.

Red? I hadn't noticed any on the original... This is my reference picture.

I did think about the insect pinchers, yes - the rollbar cage from the jeep is painted grey for just that reason. Instead of going up, they go down, but the physical protrusions are still there.

I couldn't take the doors off, actually. They're in with the pins that don't want to come out. I did manage to hammer out the pin that holds the hood down, but that was the only one that would cooperate.

I probably won't paint another jeep because of the trouble with dissambling it. Bleh.

I walked over to the store and got some insect stencils that are small enough to fit on the doors. We'll see if they're strong enough to survive being taped and airbrushed...

Is this an Alt or BT version of the mold, if its the Alt mold they actually are only clipped on to the pin, move the doors and jiggle a bit and they'll pop right off, then you can turn the post to hide the spot where they connect. I think the BT one is the same but I don't have one handy to check at the moment.

And if you see one with the stickers applied he's got a sticker on his wrists that goes has two black stripes with a red strip between them. Look him up in TFU.info and you should see it.

Very nice , as Tentagil says the Alt version doors pop right off the only problem you might have is with the door hinge painting it seems to weaken it somehow and i've had a couple of hinges go once they've been painted.

Whuh? Painting's weakening your hinges? What kind of paint are you using?!

Humbrol model paint its just a couple of times on the Jeep mould maybe its that little bit extra thickness causing more friction and putting more stress on the part when you open the door or something or maybe i dont know my own strentgh

Is it an enamel paint? If so, the problem is that the paint itself is actually weakening the plastic.

Yes I think it may well be an Enamel

I figured as much. It is because of precisely this type of chemical reaction to the plastic that my Movie Miniature Model Making instructor told us to use Acrylics and not enamels.

I may paint the doors completely black again, though. I added the yellow to make it less... Spinal Tap-ish, but the little yellow boxes on the legs actually seem to be enough.
