So I picked up Classics Grimmy and, as usual, I couldn't resist doing some modding... :P

First, various paint additions to beast-mode.

I painted all the molded joint details silver (elbows, knees, etc):

And the plates down his spine:

His eyes are now metallic blue, the red spot in the top of his head is silver with a colorized version of the new movie's Autobot symbol, and he's had a manicure, and his teeth and the big "screw" detail where his head attaches to his neck are silver:

And here's bot-mode!

You can't really tell here, but I did the shoulder-swap thing, so the screws are now on the backs of his shoulders.

And a few details on his sword/gun:

Image

I removed his stupid "chin" (I mean, really.. it's one thing to give bots with actual faces a huge chin, but why do they keep doing it to Grimlock's faceplate??) and painted his mask gold. I also coated his light-piping and the jewel in his chest with clear red paint, which looks a lot better to me than the peachy color they were molded in).

And speaking of his chest jewel...

You already saw this detail in the beast-mode pics, but here are the molded "screw" hinge connectors again:

Not bad, but why paint his beast-mode eyes blue? they look ten times better, and more accurate, red. I would have left them alone.

Have you ever seen the cartoon? His dino eyes are blue. :P

In the cartoon, so were his robot eyes, not just the dino eyes. Regardless. the toys, and comics had both his dino and robot eyes red. He never had his dino eyes a different color than his robot eyes.

So wait a minute, are you Criticizing him for combining elements from the cartoon and the toy? I thought you liked the fact that Dreamwave did that, no?

P.S. I love that blue metallic paint. Regardless of whether or not I'd put it on My toy grimlock, it looks sweet. Looks like it was done that way from the factory. I actually think I'd do my bot mode blue, but beast mode red, because I always picture all the autobots bot modes having blue eyes, and all the cons red, and don't really feel that holds true with alt modes, but to each his own.

Actually, Dreamwave worked to try and create a unified continuity as far as histories and such went. Their designs were much more detailed than the cartoons and more toy accurate in most cases when it came to things like color schemes, including eye color and such. Structurally, they tended to be more cartoon accurate because that provided a more proportioned look to the characters, but even then, the drawings were ten times more detailed than the cartoons ever were and the colors were always more toy accurate. Regardless. In no case, has Grimlock ever been depicted with his beast mode eyes a different color than his robot mode eyes. In the cartoons, both his beast eyes and robot eyes were blue. In the Marvel, and Dreamwave comics, as well as his original G1 toy, his eyes were red. This is true of all of the dinobots. In the cartoons, they all had blue eyes in both modes, yet every other source gives them all red eyes in both modes. Given Grimlock’s demeanor and personality, as well as his history, the red eyes are definately more appropriate.

I think it's a moot point. The Dino eyes look fine blue, and the visor looks good in red. And he can do both. If he didn't want to, he wouldn't have. And that's the only thing that matters, honestly.

I disagree. It should be one or the other. Personally, I prefer the red. It fits Grimlock better.

Good thing it's not your toy. Personally, I preffer the red eyes too, but it's not a big deal. It's not my toy, either.

My only real criticism is that the silver paint looks like it cold use another coat or two. It's a little thin, in places. The insignia on the dino head is a little off center, but I've done those split insignias before. I know they're pain to get just right.
